Since we missed Goat Simulator 3 during Gamescom, we decided to test it out during GameForce 2022, Belgium’s biggest gaming convention. Want to know more about this hilarious sequel? Let’s jump in!
Sandbox mayhem
Goat Simulator 3 is precisely what you expect from it, sandbox mayhem starring the infamous goat. During my hands-on, I created a lot of insane mayhem in the open-world sandbox. What I liked most about it is the fact that everything works together so well. There are tons of items and weapons to discover and everything interacts with each other. If I for example fired my rocket on a car, I send the car sky-high but when I used the same rocket on a small booth, I was rewarded with some fireworks. The developers really went all out in the details and really want you to explore the game the way you want to. It’s possible to grind over metal wires, drive cars, head bump into humans or even take everything you want with you by using the power of your sticky tongue. Exploration is key and exploration should be as much fun as possible. One thing’s for sure, this one is going to deliver some hilarious streaming moments for sure. For a technical point of view, the interaction with a wide variety of objects is pretty solid and even impressive to see while playing.
Mini-games keep things fresh
Running around as a goat while messing around with the ragdoll physics is fun but it doesn’t really last. Of course, it’s the same formula as the original release but this also means that it isn’t a game you’ll enjoy for months. There’s a limit on the fun here and after a while, I got the feeling I saw it all. Sure, there were new items and some more funny physics to discover but at its core, I was doing the same kind of thing over and over again. Luckily, the mini-games and multiplayer options will offer the needed variation to keep things fresh. There are some minigames where you can race against each other, play some golf or even soccer. During my hands-on, it wasn’t really possible to test those out that much since multiplayer wasn’t enabled on every system but you get the idea. It’s also good to know that the final product will have some variation in modes to offer different challenges and the needed variation. In short, Goat Simulator 3 feels more like the original so if you weren’t hyped for that one, I’m pretty sure this sequel won’t win you over. It’s for those who had tons of fun with the original Goat Simulator and those who want to mess around as a goat in a new setting with tons of new items and possibilities.
Early conclusion:
Goat Simulator 3 offers more of the same and doesn’t really innovate on the formula. I’m sure fans of the original will be hyped to play this and for those fans, this certainly is a fun game without a doubt!
