Hey, look, it’s another football game on the Nintendo Switch. And it has anime-esque artwork, which reminded me a lot of Tokyo Revengers in a way. Maybe it can compete with Super Mario Strikersperhaps it provides that football itch FIFA does not seem to scratch on the Switch. Spoiler alert, it does not.
Golazo! 2
Golazo 2 boldly recalls the glory days of the arcade soccer games, bringing back memories of cult classics we all know. Street mechanics and fields are added to this sequel to bring more depth to this game. Certainly a perfect game for people who are wary of football managers or complicated hard-core simulators. Just sit on the sofa and play!
As stated by developer Purple Tree. I don’t know which cult classics they had in mind when they wrote this, but I certainly have different feelings about cult classic football games. I had a blast with some of the SNES football games, or even with FIFA Street. Before I jump to my conclusion, let’s give some facts about the game. Golazo! 2 features 58 national teams and ten international stadiums. It also features a street modus with 12 street teams and 6 Street fields. Next to standard, friendly matches, the game also features four different cups, ranging from Street world tour, International Cup, World League, and a European Cup.
Fun?
And yes, I wanted to like Golazo! 2, but I found no joy playing it. Even with some of the worst games thrown at me, I usually find something I enjoy. Unfortunately, the models looked crappy in handheld mode, the controls were clunky, and the team AI is absolute trash, while the enemy team AI works in perfect sync to dunk on you over and over. I can usually find some fun in most things. Unfortunately, I did not have any fun in any of the modes. And let’s not talk about the team AI since it is just trash. And, of course, the enemy team AI works in perfect sync, so it’s time to get your ass kicked over and over again.
Conclusion
I haven’t played Golazo!, and I will not be playing any more Golazo! 2. Sorry Purple Tree, but the Nintendo Switch version is not what you want to play. If you want to play football, go for Mario – not this weird cult-imitating game.
