RADICAL DREAMERS – Le Trésor Interdit –
“RADICAL DREAMERS – Le Trésor Interdit -” was released in 1996 as a standalone game, and has not been easily accesible for play in recent years. Players can experience the story that went on to become the basis for CHRONO CROSS in an audio novel format. Here, an alternate story of the RADICAL DREAMERS, a group of three thieves – Serge, Kid and Magil – unfolds in a parallel world.
*You can switch between the new and old versions of the 3D models and illustrations.
*The 3D models, illustrations, font and background filter cannot be toggled separately. They will all be switched together.

As we are slowly moving into an age where remasters and remakes are becoming more and more natural, this is a very big retro title to make the rounds and join the ranks of Final Fantasy, the .Hack series and many more. As they are classics, there is no doubt there is an audience for this game, and with a turn-by-turn mechanism, you know pretty much exactly what to expect. I will say the entire random attack mode incorporated into this game is a bit more unusual. You get percentages that will connect your attack or you miss.

It is all seems very random but I guess it does the trick for some lovers of the genre. To be blunt though, it just felt a little too far out there for me personally as I did not really enjoy this system. It is not that it is bad, it just comes across as too random at times and well, I prefer just missing an attack in a random game rather than missing an attack when the system did predict a 95% chance of success. It is just too random.

Maybe it did not age so well as a fighting mechanic, because I do enjoy the story. My RPG playing in the last few years has really come to a point where I prefer more simplified battle systems and much like .Hack and the aforementioned Final Fantasy, I tend to enjoy a few button combinations compared to some games that have the feeling like it has 400 different attacks.

Chrono Cross Remaster: The Radical Dreamers Edition may not have been a top experience for me, it sure was a good story and I do understand the hype. A small point of negativity may be the classic lack of guidance in the older RPG titles. A basic way to see where you are going or what you need to do next, it sure is a bonus. Maybe I just did not see this option, but I sure missed having it.

In conclusion, Chrono Cross Remaster: The Radical Dreamers Edition aged well in the graphics area but may have had some added polish in some points.

7/10
