Welcome to our review of Glyph, the perfect example of how a great game can be mediocre when the controls do not perform well.
Glyph’s Unique Movement System And Irresistible Soundscape Give You A Platforming Experience You Won’t Get Anywhere Else. Glyph is a challenging game where enchanting music, vibrant graphics, and game mechanics add up to more than just the sum of their parts. One of those platformers with truly emergent gameplay… A game that gets better and better the more you play it.
Glyph takes place amidst the desert ruins of a dying civilization. Playing as the titular glyph, you unravel the mystery of the downfall while rebuilding a giant ancient temple. Relax after a long day with Glyph’s Exploration mode, where you travel to a wonderful land of mystery and discovery… Consistent 50+ frames per second ensure that you’ll be gracefully soaring the skies… Through massive worlds of vibrant scenery… Uncovering secrets, upgrades, and treasures… Bringing the lost nation back from the brink of extinction.
Test your skills with a heart-thumping, adrenaline-pumping race against the clock in Glyph’s Time Trial mode.
The developers have painstakingly made certain that the time trials leave you with bated breath and sweaty palms – as well as a wide grin when you earn a spot on the scoreboard.
The secret behind Glyph’s unique gameplay is the seamless switching between 7 different kinds of movement, combined with expansive freedom. In fact, the freedom of movement in Glyph lets you perform such breathtaking feats of mobility that some players are finding new ways to skip directly to the end of some levels.
* 80+ levels in Exploration mode mean you’ll have to put serious effort into the game before you’ve seen it all.
* 30 blazing hot levels put your skills to the test in Time Trial mode.
* 100+ secrets and upgrades are all part of the game from the beginning. With Glyph, you won’t have to pay for extra skins or cool unlocks.
* A wicked mean final boss…
With 2 different game modes -and plenty of levels to choose from- you always have a reason to play Glyph.
No matter if you’re feeling like chilled-out exploration for 15 minutes, or you have an hour to blast through the time trials, Glyph has something for you. The payoff in playing Glyph goes much deeper than enjoying the stunning vistas and solving the many mysteries of how destruction came to an advanced civilization.
Glyph is really quite the game, I could see myself play this game for hours, but with a different control set. I just hated the fact that when the ball or whatever went up, that the shadow was not representative of its real location in the air. I had to redo several levels due to this and I consider this a game-breaking issue.
Aside from that, the game is not so bad, you twirl your way from beginning to end. You avoid the obstacles and try not to fall into the sand. The new mechanics are introduced one by one and you do not have a lot of problems with the basic controls of the ball. I do wish things would be a little more polished. I just feel like this game is missing that extra oomph to take it from mediocre to good.
In conclusion, the entire game falls for me with its lack of proper polish. I would love to see this game done right, but as it stands, I got to fail it. I hate doing this, but being unable to estimate where in the sky you are, messes up the fun part.
