Welcome to our review of Skytime, a game that really left a bad first impression…
Save your family after a horrible accident with both a boomerang wrench and a clock that controls time.
SkyTime is a 3D platformer in which you slow time, dodge bullets, destroy turrets, and overcome obstacles!
In SkyTime, you are a scientist who lost their family in an avalanche and are trying to get them back. You created a time machine, but it was missing one key component: a reactor core to power it. You stole one from the evil private military company Mortech, and are now being chased. Can you outrun them?
Go through 9 levels in many different ways. You can pass through them as quickly as possible, or try to destroy all the turrets along the way. In any case, this will not be a boring evening, or morning, or whenever you decided to play this game!
The idea behind this game is not bad, really, it is not. Sadly it looks exactly like what you’d expect to find from a free game on mobile. Pay a buck or two and get rid of the ads, but before you even get to that, the game gets removed and you forget you ever played it. That was my first impression of this game.
Not that my second impression was any better, but after seeing some clips on youtube, wanting to make sure I was not missing out on anything, which I was not. Even the players on youtube struggled with the mechanics of this game and well, so did I at first.
All in all, it is a kind of platformer where you have 2 things in hand, a time-slowing watch and a frisbee style wrench, the inventiveness shows, but that is about it. I was not aware at first that this was a game where you could go slower, it felt like I was going to have to rush for time, which I tried a few times, failed almost as many times until that one level where I had to make a long jump.
Having already forgotten the slowing time mechanic, I think I failed around 10 times before heading back to youtube, see how others did that magnificent jump… It was by the slowing time mechanic as you could have guessed and well, it suddenly made the game a bit easier and more accessible. Not that I liked it or so, no, my first impression was too hard to shake.
But it did make certain jumps easier, made the game slightly better. But sadly it could not rescue my desire to delete the game quickly from my Nintendo Switch. Skytime is just not my cup of tea, the graphics, the poor layout, the weird choices of buttons to press, … Nope, it just is not for me.
In conclusion, I will go even further in my breaking down of the title and recommend against buying it at full price unless you really enjoy these kind of games. For everyone else, stay away from this one…
