Review: Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint (2021)

Welcome to our review of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint on Google Stadia. The review of the original version can be found here.

I am one of few gamers out there that actually seems to like this game, so much that I bought the game on Xbox right after trying the game right here on Google Stadia, which was not based upon its story, but sadly the inability to have a proper game.

Yes, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, a mouthful, is without a doubt the gold standard for Google Stadia, as a fast-paced shooter, this is the type of game that will really test a service of cloud gaming more than anything, but sadly, spoiler alert, this is where the game failed miserably.

I will admit to not having Stadia Pro right now, as I had way too many other expenses in real life and well, this is what happens in those cases, you make certain sacrifices, and dropping a subscription or two, is part of life. So in this aspect, I am playing this game, not in glorious 4K, but normal Full HD. As our loyal fans will know, I make sure to mention everything from bandwidth to possible delays in playing, but I played mostly after midnight.

I purposely played after midnight so the game would have the full resources of my home network at its disposal, so I had the full 90+ download and 20+ upload at my disposal. But alas, that proved to be insufficient to get a great service. The game was pixelated many times, I got stuck in the background and in places like rooftops, hilltops, … It had been a while since my last experience like this.

I know how the game had been critiqued in the past. I think it is barely scraping a 6 on Metacritic and with how the game performed on Stadia, I would even be inclined to go for an even lower score. Like a 5 or so, nothing under 5. The game suffered from the service more than anything else, so I decided at that time to at least give the game a fair and honest chance. One without all the bullshit of those pixelated fights and the likes.

Skip a few days forward in time and we got ourselves a package in the mail and after a long install time, I got to play it on my Series X. I wanted to go all out and see if the game improved a lot or not. Well, obviously it did, glorious 4K and all, but also not a single glitch was to be found in my 4 hours into the game so far. I did hear from friends that this is merely a coincidence, those glitches are still very much present as a picture taken that very day proved.

The entire issue with this game is that it just proves once again that the higher-paced games are really not the best fit for the console if your connection is not of the superior kind. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint itself was a decent enough game that I do not regret buying the physical game.

In conclusion, Google Stadia really does not cut it for the higher-paced games for me. I keep getting disappointed and having bought the game on disc, it should validate my score a little.

7/10
