It’s that time of the month again – Kairosoft review time! We got two new titles from our friends in Japan, and since I’m the only one that’s still sane (or insane) enough to review them, we start with Mega Mall Story 2 (or this is the second one you’ll see, depends on my editor). Time to go all Mallporium on them – let’s go!
Mega Mall Story 2!
Let’s go to the mall, everyone! Insert Robin Sparkles video right here – and we’re off! If you’re not familiar with Kairosoft, I kindly redirect you to one of my older reviews; I explained it in detail in a few of them. For those already familiar with them, this latest installment puts you in charge of a mall if you hadn’t figured that one out yet. Like most of the Kairosoft game, this is a business management sim where you can make a mall that’s right for you! Well, and for your customers, of course.
Sequel
This installment is actually a sequel to Mega Mall Story, one I haven’t played yet. Still, according to the developer, everything’s been expanded since the last game – build bigger, build higher! You get to enjoy more freedom and customization than ever. When I played through this Kairosoft title, it reminded me many of the Pyraplex at its core. It offers a wide range of store options, which gives the player the choice to make a mall with a certain flair. I personally enjoyed adding lots of different options to attract a wide audience from all over the country, which paid off big time since I breezed through the first parts of the game.
To keep the game challenging, you can add public transport stations to bring in customers from farther away. Visitors can come by bus, subway, helicopter, and even on UFOs. Which eventually leads to a lot of new mall visitors bursting with personality. It’s a manager’s job to make sure customers leave satisfied, including holding events, upgrading stores to certain levels, and adding facilities to please your regulars. This leads to VIPs’ inclusion and exclusive stores, like exhibitions, a movie theater, pool, and even an indoor farm! Stores come in different shapes and sizes – the combinations are limitless, leading to creating combos by placing related stores on the same floor. You even need to take advantage of the weather and scenery to attract more customers and compete with other stores to be the best mall in town.
Conclusion
So to conclude, the sky’s the limit in Mega Mall Story 2 – and it was the first Kairosoft title that I did not need to restart five times before I hit that five-star goal. It’s a really straightforward title that made me spent more hours than I dare to admit – burning a little bit of the midnight oil in the progress since I forgot about the time. For those interested in retail, this sure is a must-play. I enjoyed my time with Mega Mall Story and hope this is how Kairosoft keeps pushing its future titles.
