Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is yet another iteration of the base game with all the currently available content added. If you haven’t yet opted in the franchise and are still contemplating if you should, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate might just be the deal you’re looking for.
Still Brutal
The people at NetherRealm must really love re-branding their products. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is the second time the studio rereleased the same game with some additions and slapped a new name on it – The first time being Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath. This time the “Ultimate” might indicate that it will be the last although some long-awaited fan favorites are still not added to the roster. Reptile and Goro come to mind but now I’m nitpicking. With the current roster of 37 fighters, you’ll have plenty to work with despite some blatant absences. What you get with Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is still the same brutal experience but this time it’s bigger and even better looking.

Kombat Pack 2
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate includes – kinda unsurprisingly – the base game and the Aftermath story expansion. With Aftermath came the additions of Fujin, Sheeva, and Robocop to the roster which are also included. Kombat Pack 1 with Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, The Joker, Sindel, Terminator, and Spawn is also included in this Ultimate Edition. Every Skin pack released until now is also available in this edition. The only thing differentiation this version from the latest Aftermath Edition is the addition of the newly released Kombat Pack 2. This pack finally adds Rain and Mileena to the roster while also adding 80s film favorite Rambo as a guest.

Although I like the novelty of adding Rambo to the mix, I was more looking forward to Rain and especially Mileena. Mileena is the type of character I always liked to play with and this time was not any different. The banter she traded with her opponents still cracks me up. Rain has some great special moves with nice watery themed effects but didn’t quite fit my personal style. Rambo uses a combination of knife attacks with guerilla-style gadgets to be a great all-rounder. The match-ups against Robocop and Terminator could potentially settle a few debates amongst 80s action film buffs.
Ready for next-gen
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is available on all popular platforms – yes even Stadia… PlayStation and Xbox fans even have the option to buy the next-gen version. Those still buying the PS4/Xbox One version will be glad to hear they’ll get a free update once they update their hardware. Performing fatal blows and shattering skulls has never looked so good. The slickness of fatalities shines on the new hardware. PC gamers who made console gamers jealous will rejoice no more when they see how Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate looks on next-gen. Nintendo Switch users can still go full handheld mode with this new edition.

All Gold with some glitter
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate does pack a punch. All the content included makes for a fully beefed up game for the price of the original game back in 2019. Mortal Kombat 11 was already a great rendition of the famed series. The added Kombat Pack 2 adds some more glitter to let the game shine even more. The addition of next-gen possibilities for those owning the right hardware makes this truly the Ultimate version of the game. With all these different versions, fans will be glad to hear they included “Krossplay” between PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S players. This function opens up a much bigger player pool keeping the online part of the game very much alive and high/low kicking.

Conclusion
All previous iterations of Mortal Kombat 11 got favorable reviews from us and this Ultimate Edition isn’t going to change that. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition is the best deal out there for those interested in starting their Mortal Kombat 11 adventure.
