Opinion: Ubisoft Forward September Predictions

Last month, Ubisoft held its first new digital event called Ubisoft Forward, giving us a lot of new details on their upcoming games. With trailers and gameplay reveals of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion, and Far Cry 6, fans enjoyed this first digital briefing. And yet, not everybody was satisfied. Most of the demonstrated games were already revealed in the past and the big surprise got leaked prior to the event. Not long after the first event, Ubisoft confirmed they’ll host a new digital Ubisoft Forward this September, so what can we expect?

More Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Let’s get one thing straight, yes we’ll probably see some more Assassin’s Creed Valhalla during the second Ubisoft Forward next month. The game is releasing this November so September is the ideal timing to get the fanbase hyped up a little more. I predict a more impressive gameplay demo featuring some jaw-dropping scenes and some incredibly designed bosses. Valhalla is going to be a great game in the franchise and we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg. I’m betting Ubisoft will kick off their second event with Assassin’s Creed, so they can move over to some more updates and surprises.

Gods & Monsters

Gods & Monsters was Ubisoft’s big surprise during last year’s E3 and is releasing on all major platforms. It’s a new IP for the company and it’s a big deal, that’s for sure. Since its initial reveal we haven’t heard a lot from it besides a playable demo that landed on Google Stadia by mistake. It looked a lot like Ubisoft’s take on The Legend of Zelda but if we can believe the developers, the game has come a long way since the first reveal and might become something completely different from what people are expecting. I’m pretty sure this one will release in 2021 so it’s time for an update this September!

Return of iconic heroes

When it comes to older franchises, Ubisoft has plenty of those waiting to get a sequel. Take Prince of Persia for example. It’s been years since we last saw the Prince in action and yet the franchise isn’t forgotten. With special events in For Honor and a special Escape Room all in that typical Prince of Persia atmosphere, the franchise is coming back to life. So what about a new game? Assassin’s Creed took its place years ago but that franchise is evolving into something so much bigger than just an action game. Perhaps it’s time to bring back our beloved Prince once and for all!

Talking about old heroes. What about Sam Fisher? Ubisoft showed Sam Fisher in their mobile game “Elite Squad”, but let’s be honest here, we just want a new Splinter Cell. With Netflix adopting the franchise in a new animated series; I think it’s time to show the world what a new Splinter Cell looks like. September seems like the perfect timing to do so!

Some Nintendo Switch love

If we think about it, Ubisoft has a lot of games they can showcase during a second show, including Beyond Good & Evil 2, Skull and Bones, Rainbox Six Quarantine, and more… But, there’s a console missing on this list of reveals and it’s the Nintendo Switch. Although a lot of gamers weren’t disappointed with the first Ubisoft Forward, I know a lot of Nintendo fans were. The Nintendo Switch is a beast when it comes to sales and it’s no secret the bond between Ubisoft and Nintendo is stronger than ever, so I expect some Nintendo love during the next event. My predictions? Well, my safest bet is on a Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle sequel since the game deserves to become a franchise while my riskier bet is a new Star Fox, created by Ubisoft. They already got Nintendo’s approval to add Star Fox in Starlink, so why not go all the way and create the next installment in the iconic franchise. That’s perhaps a bit too much of wishful thinking but I’m hoping to see a lot of Ubisoft x Nintendo games during the next digital event!

Oh, and one more thing

One thing’s for sure, Ubisoft always likes a big surprise and I’m betting they end the second digital event with a surprise nobody saw coming (hoping it doesn’t get leaked this time). I’m pretty sure the company has a lot in store for us in the coming years and I’m sure they want to share it with the world as soon as possible, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
