Preview: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore

Welcome to our preview of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore. Nintendo ported the Wii U RPG and this is our first impression!

When the game originally came out on Wii U, it was by far one of its best titles and I was a very big fan of the game. Needless to say I absolutely got thrilled to find out this game was getting a second lease on life and coming to my most beloved Switch console. What really stood out in the old days, is how this game seemlesly incorporated two major franchise mechanics into 1 big over the top game.

At the time, it might have even been the best game on the console in its genre, not counting Zelda which was rumoured to become a NX exclusive at the time. The memories of the original codename for the Nintendo Switch and that first introduction movie, they are all coming back. At a time we were unaware of what was to come and with only 1 or 2 big titles per quarter, Tokyo Mirage got its fair share of spotlight on a console that is often forgotten.

Fast forward to around 950 days into the lifespan of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo suddenly announced the big game they’d be releasing early 2020 was going to be none other than one of my personal favourites on the Wii U. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore was coming and now, a few months later, I consider myself such a lucky guy. Not just to be playing the game but to be actually previewing the game for Gaming Boulevard.

In the weeks leading up to the release, Nintendo did an awesome job introducing us once again to the world that is Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore. The music videos, the promos, the videos displaying the fighting system and so much more. This Fire Emblem and Alice games crossover is finally here and now we head back into modern day Tokyo where we are faced with mass disappearances that are yet unexplained.

The story itself starts off with us witnessing a mass disappearance event. Everyone during the musical event disappeared but one small girl. No explanation was ever found for what occurred that day and years later, that little girl is now a young adult and she decided to go into show business to try and find out more about what happened a few years ago, the event that led to the disappearance of her own older sister. Upon her first attempt to be in a talent show, she is whisked away into the other reality by the host of the show, as is everyone else.

Our female lead as well as her friend from school are suddenly in an alternate reality where monstrous beings reside. They are attacked and a light comes out and it frees the beings in front of them from the evil controlling them. They have been freed and are giving their powers to our couple heroes. The performa masters are born, They must now find their way to safety. All while a friend of theirs is sending them messages on the mobile platform trying to get them out of there.

After some first fights and all, they get to the end of the prologue and the first big battle. The host of the talent show turns out to be a big boss and after the reveal of more friends, they get out of the fight alive. Having met three people now that know what is going on, they decide to join forces with them and at the one hour mark, the prologue ends and you just lifted the veil of the story called Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore.

I have expressed my love for the game before and I can confirm I still like it very much. I will keep my full opinion and accompanying score for my full review which is out later on. I hope you look forward to reading it as much as I look forward to writing it already, but first, time to play some more Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore!
