Welcome to our review of Remothered: Tormented Fathers, the game looking to redefine the horror genre.
Remothered: Tormented Fathers is the pure and realistic survival horror video game. A game by Darril Arts, directed by Chris Darril, developed by Stormind Games.
Psychology plays a huge role within the game: heroes and enemies are atypical and the line between good and evil is blurred. The plot is rich in unpredictable twists, but touching at the same time. The development of the game is similar to that of a film narration, where the player perfectly identifies himself with the character. The soundtrack, composed by Nobuko Toda and Luca Balboni, enhances the terrifying atmosphere of the game.
The story revolves around Rosemary Reed, a fascinating 35-year-old woman, who reaches Richard Felton’s house, in order to investigate the disappearance of a girl called Celeste. The woman is greeted by Gloria, the nurse who takes care of old Richard. When Dr. Felton understands Rosemary’s true intentions, the dread begins.
Remothered: Tormented Fathers is the first title of the long-awaited 3rd person game trilogy. A web of lies where murders and obsessions come to life. A revolutionary experience created for survival horror fans. The endless combinations of game dynamics make the experience available to every gamer: stealth, action, strategic, hide ‘n run. Deceive your stalker and block him in another area of the house. Attack your enemy and make your items more powerful. Carefully study the behavior of your stalker and his path. Don’t get too close to your enemy, act like an unperceivable shadow, hiding from his sight. Or just mix these dynamics together.
Remothered: Tormented Fathers is a very eerie survival horror video game and straight from the start, you will notice the dense atmosphere and how this game will shine brightly! Pardon the pun, nothing will shine as it is actually a most “dark” game. In true horror fashion, everything is dark as it should be. In the settings, you can really add or remove darkness as the lighting can be changed from seeing literally everything to seeing almost nothing at all. This is quite the added bonus for when you want to mess with how difficult this game is.
The story itself is your everyday dark horror storyline and you sneak around the Felton house intended to find out everything you can. I picked up items and made them stronger, I hid in closets and under little benches and so much more. Nothing truly outstanding game mechanic wise but the true power of this game is the very intense story.
As it is not my habit to spoil storylines, I will not break my habit in this review and will leave the game to be explored at your convenience. I will say that the first 10 minutes alone, entering the Felton house, meeting the old man and his nurse… Dark as f… it sets the mood for the game and before you know it, you are being hunted throughout the house.
The one thing I would like to talk about though, the game mechanics and how the camera works. I always think proper camera work in games like these is the prime reason to skip or pick up a horror game. For me personally, the camera could be improved upon. At times when opening drawers, I would feel that I was not able to see the contents of the drawer without purposely moving around.
Another thing, there was this one place on the bottom floor of the house, I was next to a little cabinet with a drawer I could open, but it was also next to a door. I opened that drawer three times while trying to just exit the place. The screen did show me the door icon in order to open the door, yet I ended up opening the drawer. It might be just my luck, but it did kind of bug me.
Graphically, most of the house is darkly lit, so very few high-end graphics are to be found in this game, but that did not bug me much. The people were realistic in a lite kind of way, also did not bug me much but what did bug me, the way you run. The audio was not synched and it just looked awkward to me. Even outside the house, prior to entering, you could run to the entrance and she was exhausted already, but in a weird way, I can not even explain properly. Breathing heavily yet not panting… No physical signs either …?
In conclusion, Remothered: Tormented Fathers is a game with some ups and downs, once you can look past the minor annoyances, you are left with a great story. My score given however is influenced by the annoyances I had. Some glitches and all into consideration, I think my score is a fair one.
