Welcome to our review of the new levels in Captain Toad, which is possibly my favorite game on the Switch!
As of February 13th, 2019, you can purchase the Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker – Special Episode DLC to continue your journey with eighteen new challenges, including five brand-new courses. Naturally, you can play all of the courses with a friend or alone. Either way, you’ll dodge dangers and track treasures across many trap-filled miniature worlds; some are even based on the Super Mario Odyssey™ game!
As my prologue mentioned, Captain Toad might be my favorite game on Switch! I simply adore it and when Nintendo announced the new DLC, I was overjoyed as I would be able to play more levels and maybe even replay some of the older levels once again.
I started the DLC after activating the review code which was kindly offered by Nintendo and it started the game by showing a brand new section below, displaying the new levels. I felt like a grubby little boy that was about to enter the candy store with loads of money in his pocket. In pure Captain Toad fashion, the new levels did not disappoint in any way.
Still able to walk around the place, grab the three diamonds and advance to the next level, Captain Toads newest DLC stays incredibly true to the original levels. I especially loved the mine cart level, I can not deny it, I love throwing stuff at enemies in all the Mario games, Captain Toad being no exception!
At the set price point, this DLC is exactly worth its money and I consider the price point to be the sweet spot. I would not mind spending more money myself, even if it would not bring me any additional levels, this game is that good. But we did get new levels and it did spark some online rumors of a possible successor. Rumors that should be treated as they are, just rumors. If Nintendo has something to announce, they will do so at the right time!
As an avid lover of puzzle games, Captain Toad has always been of my most beloved games, the ingenuity behind the puzzles is what makes me want to play this game nonstop at times. The evening of the day I ended up getting the new DLC, it was 2 am and the next day was a working day but I insisted on playing just one more level. At the time, I was already 6 levels down and had 100%’ed all of them.
This is exactly why I love this game, it did not matter to me that I had work the next day. I just wanted to keep playing and now, sadly, I have finished all the levels. I loved every minute of it and I am so grateful for the chance to experience these new levels. My favorite one is one of the initial levels, that half ship, that was awesome. It actually took me some thinking to figure out how to properly score the 100% on it, but the feeling you get when you finish a level like that, it truly is priceless!
In conclusion, Captain Toad is the one true hero! #beingpartialFTW
