Welcome to our overview of the Nindies direct of March 20, 2019 followed by our opinion on its content!
First off, we start with the big bombshell being Cuphead is coming to the Nintendo Switch! Originally an Xbox One exclusive, thanks to the amazing friends over at Microsoft, this game is available for preorder now and will release April 18!
Next up, Overland which will be out on Switch this fall , this is a turn based game with a distinct art style! Randomly Generated levels!
Third is a chaos inducing game called My Friend Pedro, which is a console exclusive and it is out in June
Fourth, Neo Cab, a game that will be out this Summer.
Fifth is The Red Lantern, a game by Timberline Studio, a game that looks very special, about sled racing with dogs, a rather special but pretty art style, all about surviving in the wild and getting home! Out later this year!
Sixth, Darkwood! A procedurally generated game without linear path! All about survival and available this May!
Seventh, Katana Zero, a fun looking platformer that makes you fight off enemies with your katana! It has a 16bit style and remember, leave no survivors, also out on April 18th!
Eight game on the presentation, based upon the Unreal Engine, Rad, a game where your character leaves a trail of plants and grass. It appears to be a fighting game where you fend off the enemies by fighting or mutating all while leaving a trail of new grass/plants. Out in Summer 2019!
Nine is a pinball action adventure game, taking place in the desert, it looks totally weird and simple, but when it releases in the summer, I am sure to pick this one up!
Tenth, a top down action game called Bloodroots. This game is high octane and all about dishing out death to your enemies. Out this Summer!
Number Eleven! Pine, an open world action adventure game that looks amazingly nice and has a deep Zelda feeling, a True fight for survival and it is out this august!
Twelve, Super Crate box, out next month!
Thirteen, Nuclear Throne, out today, check your eshop for details!
Fourteen, a shooter called Ultra Bugs, out later this year!
Fifteen, Swimsanity, out this summer and it is a very elaborate oceanic shooter! Out this Summer
Sixteen, Blaster Master Zero is getting a successor! With loads of powerups to the original crew, Blaster Master Zero 2 is out today!
Seventeen, Stranger Things (season 3), the game, based upon the hit Netflix series (which is a must watch if you have not already) is coming to Switch on July 4th!
Last but not least, a game set in the zelda world, Cadence of Hyrule, out this spring!
So, as there was quite a bit of information to go through, I have to say this made me more excited than the previous full direct for main Nintendo titles.
Mind you there was nothing wrong with them, just that this was more powerful! Starting off with possibly one of the most die hard exclusives on Xbox, Cuphead, which is now coming to the Switch, that alone made my day! Cuphead is an awesome game and I can not wait to play it again on my Switch and I have it preordered already!
While I was not incredibly warm for some titles, the overal level of cool stuff, it did outweigh the ones that did not appeal to me. I am curious about the Zelda one and Pine. Not forgetting Bloodroots for example. Overall, I am entertained by the list of titles.
I am at around 70% curious and excited versus 30% of not overly interested. But as always, the games that will impress you the most are usually those that you won’t expect it from!
