Preview: Sushi Striker – The Way of the Sushido

Welcome to our preview of Sushi Striker, the way of the Sushido. This is the version for Nintendo Switch!

Have you ever been to Japan and eaten in a sushi place with a conveyor belt? You know, the place where all those heavenly plates of delicious sushi just pass before your eyes. Not knowing which to pick first but you pick the first one that you see anyway and as many as you want too. You enjoy the great food and when it is all done, you are left with a huge pile of empty colored plates next to you?

They then count the plates by color as each represents a specific price depending on the restaurant. Sushi Striker the Way of the Sushido works exactly the same. You combine the same color plates by using the controller or your finger on the touchscreen. Slide down the combos and rack up points. Points used in the wacky combat system where you then throw the empty plates at your enemy. Be first to empty your opponents’ health bar and you win the battle! This does not need mentioning, but better combinations for higher points are the key!

Sushi Striker is all about making combinations and for this, a really smart gameplay was developed by Nintendo and Indieszero, a developer most of us will know for their work on the NES remix games, but also Theatrhythm and Electroplankton were from their hands, just to name a few. This company has been around for 2 decades and has previously worked with the likes of Square Enix too, so you know they are skilled and experienced! Sushi Striker will also see the light of day on the 3DS. Originally, it was announced to be 3DS exclusive during the 2017 Nintendo E3 presentation but was later revealed to also come to Nintendo Switch during the famous Nintendo Direct in March 2018.

While this game may look childish, let me assure you it brings a great and funny story about good versus evil and how you need to enroll sushi sprites to come to your aid. They allow you to fire off special attacks or to let you heal some of your health. A very welcome addition to the game, once you play it too, I am 100% sure you will agree with me. This game is mostly about skill but brings life to the puzzle action genre in its own way.

As this is merely a short preview, I suggest keeping your eye on our site for our full review when it becomes available near release day. At that time, I will go into greater detail on the game mechanics and the funny storyline and why I think this game should have its’ own anime!
So keep your eye on the site because my first impression right now is that this is a great game!
