Indie Corner: Metropolis – Lux Obscura

Welcome to our review of a game that is more than just another “match three”, welcome to the story called Metropolis Lux Obscura.

(This game is oriented towards a very mature audience and should be treated as such, do not buy this for children as the game is filled with sexy ladies and mature content.)

This City is rotten to the core. You can’t even tell night from day in this hell where big money runs everything. And the best way to prove you’re right is with brute force.

Jon Lockhart walked through the prison gates a free man, after spending years imprisoned as the supposed murderer of an old friend. He returned once more to the city where it all started intent on figuring out who it was that framed him for the murder and make them pay in blood for the crime. It’d take some work with the key witness dead, but that just meant he’d have to flush out every rat from hiding.

Old friends and new enemies. Search for the truth, for loyalty and sanity – but all you can find here is redemption, betrayal and death.

As you progress through the story, you are hit with a darker comic style based storyline. You are the main hero, though can you really say a hero? He has been in prison for supposed murder. The main map brings you to the big city and with it, encounters with old friends but also old enemies. You want to find out what happened and what is happening. The story itself is really refreshing and very easy to follow.

Once you meet an enemy is when the game slips into a “match three” game with a serious twist. Certain moves can bring in the cops, which hurts your life power. You face off with an enemy, you have life power, they have life power. Whoever gets it down to zero first, is the obvious winner. But the entire game is filled with several bonus powers and extras. Luckily the enemy does not always get to go every turn, but sometimes once every four turns. This displays on screen and really helps to beat the harder enemies.

First up in the possible powers, rage mode, you can build up your rage, allowing you to get more powerful attacks. You got medical powers, allowing you to heal yourself. You got fists and boots, causing damage to the enemy and so much more. The most important one, the police badge, which actually deals damage to Jon.

Add in the mental disorders and bad habits to achieve hardcore powerups and you got a real heavy hitting game on your hands.

This entire game is so much more than just your basic match three game, a candy crush this is not. Not even close! Metropolis Lux Obscura matches the comic styled graphics, the professional narration, the sexy and clearly adult-oriented storyline with a symphony of strategic planning you need to advance in the story. Clearly plan out your next move so you take advantage of falling blocks, heal up, … All before it’s the enemy’s turn!

In conclusion, Metropolis Lux Obscura is a game I really liked. The variety of games, the challenge in battling, the obviously amazing story which captures your attention from the start… I just loved it all. At a price point below 10, this game is 7,49 after all, this is a must-own in my humble opinion if you like the match three genre. This game has a serious dark side to it and you will love it too! Do keep it away from kids and all is fine!
My rating for this game is 90%
