Welcome to our review of the newest point and click adventure on Nintendo Switch!
A lot can be said about point and click games, they sure are quite famous on mobile devices and the Switch seems like the logical next step to start seeing more and more releases. This game is called Escape Trick, 35 fateful enigmas, alluding to the amount of levels there are.

The game is based on the premise of what is basically an escape room, while the last few years have really seen the breakthrough of those, this game seeks to really incorporate the premise of an escape room into a point and click game. The two do match well, much like in a real escape room, you are searching for hints, clues, objects, … in order to progress through the story.
This game is exactly the same, though it has 2 “games” or should I say 2 stories? First up, the Father who vanished, the official description being:
Our hero goes place to place, searching for his lost father with nothing but the mysterious key he left behind. Will he be able to escape the countless prisons his destinations inevitably become and find his parent?!
Then there is the second story, Waking up imprisoned!
Our hero wakes up with a cell phone and a note. Though he has no memories to rely on, a mysterious woman appears in front of him – Kei.
They move forward, clinging to the only clue they can believe in, and come to a shocking revelation…!
I will be honest about this game, while the premise is very promising and maybe even exciting, this is a bland game with a few issues. First off, the speed of the cursor and controls. Despite being able to adjust the speed of the cursor, I feel like the way you control this game is awkward. I think the game would benefit from either only having touch controls in handheld and the cursor in TV mode. I usually play in handheld mode, it is by far my favorite playing method and can easily account for 95% of my gameplay. I just could not find the controls pleasant. I kept mixing both and it felt off.
Another thing that was wrong, the background music, which is a really strange remark to make, but I felt like the music mismatched the actual game. At one point, the male protagonist voice is speaking and there is not a single sound around him, despite being on a street. At other times, you get this repetitive jingle… It just mismatched the feeling and was in my gameplay actually quite disappointing!
The last thing I want to mention, there is also a problem with the graphics, which are not so bad overall, but again, a bland feeling. I don’t know why I keep disliking this game, it has a great premise, but it is all just so dull. I never got into the game much and the lack of possible hints when you seem to be stuck, not very helpful indeed!
The one thing that I do very much appreciate, the option to take pics inside the game and note down stuff, for games like these, taking a rest and picking up later on, it does get easier this way!
In conclusion, this game was not a great experience for me, it was borderline boring and the flimsy storyline did not keep me wanting more. My rating is obviously based on my experience so sadly enough, it comes down to 20%…
