Gamescom 2017: LEGO Dimensions wave 9

Warner Bros. showed the upcoming LEGO Dimensions packs, including the cute Powerpuff Girls, Betelgeuse and more. During the hands-off presentation, we got to see some of the new characters in action in the new world inspired by the Powerpuff universe. Needless to say, we had a lot of fun watching!

Time to discover Townsville

Since this is wave 9 of the Dimensions expansions already, you might already have an idea what you can expect, indeed, a new central world to discover. We discovered the 3D version of Townsville, which looked rather good! The creator also shared the fact that a special Powerpuff Girls episode will air where both the 3D and cartoon worlds collide, really looking forward to that one!

For the sake of the demo, we didn’t get much time to explore the open world of Townsville but it’s rather similar to the other worlds you’ve unlocked. The first mission we got was helping Professor Utonium to create another secret formula. As expected, this problem was solved with the typical LEGO gameplay. We had to activate switches, break walls, create new items and so on. But, solving the puzzles with the Powerpuff Girls only wasn’t possible. We needed help from other characters from the WB universe, like Lord Voldemort for example. It doesn’t matter how many times you’re doing it, adding WB characters to worlds they don’t belong is by far the best part of the entire Dimensions franchise. Of course, the game gives you hints on how to solve puzzles and which characters you need, so you’ll never be surprised.

Way more than Powerpuff Girls only

The mission with Professor Utonium sure was fun, but it’s not the only one in the world. Each mission you complete results in a golden brick, which is needed to remodel your assist characters to stronger versions. There’s a total of 28 bricks in this world so we got to see sol-me more missions. Adventure Time, Mission Impossible and the A-Team were all playable here, let’s discuss them briefly.

LEGO Dimensions

The Adventure Time mission was a rather easy one where you had to explore a hidden tomb, deactivate the traps and locate the golden brick. Sounds easy at first sight but there are some things you’ll need to take into consideration. For example, which character will you use and how will you benefit from its strengths the most. This technique was also used in the Mission Impossible quest were LEGO Tom Cruise had to dress up like a guard to get access to the highly secured prison. Again, there are other ways to do this but playing a Mission Impossible mission without Mister Cruise just isn’t the same. The last one, the A-team quest, was meant to show us what happens when you don’t own the actual LEGO character. For this mission, we needed the powers of Mr. T, a character that wasn’t available at the show floor. The solution? You could hire this character for a set amount of time and for a rather high amount of your in-game currency. Hiring these LEGO heroes is challenging thanks to the time limit but if you know what to do, you’ll be able to solve the problem without owning the actual figurine. Of course, owning it has way more advantages and that’s basically the goal of Warner Bros. These toys need to sell.

PowerpuffGirls-

Early conclusion:

Wave 9 seems to bring a lot more fun to the LEGO Dimensions universe. By adding new iconic characters including a new world to discover filled with fun missions, Warner Bros. is only expanding their fun virtual world. If you own the LEGO Dimensions pack, be sure to keep a close eye out for wave 9, since it’s offering a lot of content. If you’re new to it, this might be the perfect moment to start your new addiction.
