It looks like SSX will receive a (paid?) update soon, including a head-to-head multiplayer mode.
Although EA didn’t announced this officially, the new mode can be watched in action in the teaser video inside.
The video only shows off an online head-to-head mode, no information on an offline head-to-head mode.
It’s unsure if this update will be released as a paid DLC or a free update.
