Welcome to our review of the DLC packs of the Marvel Avengers game, which are somewhat a hit or miss.
When I say the DLC Packs, I am talking about Kate Bishop, Hawkeye and Black Panther, the additional stories available on Xbox. Being someone that generally likes most things from the Marvel universe, well, all except their corporate overlords, but that is a story for another day. I do follow most of the TV series and I am currently really enjoying Ms Marvel, a series about Kamala Harris, the original hero from the main game.
Fun Fact, some of the episodes were actually directed by Belgian directors Bilal and Adil, who are known for their more edgy approach to cinema and well, did you see their (useless) cameos? I sure did. I love the atmosphere of the show so far and I really love how Kamala discovers her powers, a very skilled actress indeed!
Now back to the game, the first 2 stories basically handle the Hawkeye series and I just really liked the new mechanics introduced. As you will know, they use the bow and arrow and I love how you can pick between 3 types of arrows. Sure, it will take a little while to get used to this new mechanic, but it is highly rewarding. Once you finish the storylines, you will be overjoyed to have this addition to the game, this part specifically is probably my most loved of the entire game
.
Unlike Black Panther, his acrobatics and parkour mechanics are something completely different and sadly, I did not enjoy playing his role. I really loved the movie and still regret we will not have a second one featuring the late Chadwick Boseman, he truly shone in the role of the man himself. The whole running around and acrobatically attacking your enemies, it just feels weird at first, and even towards the end, while more accustomed to it, I did not enjoy it.
Storywise, it was more than ok, don’t get me wrong, the way it is drawn, the feeling of everything, it really shines. Just not the game mechanics for me. Maybe because I played it right after the others? Really liking the option to go long distances and then suddenly having to go up close? Who knows…
Now, let me address the elephant in the room. The game still has some of the bugs it used to. It did improve slightly but it is not a very fluent game at times. I encountered a few enemies that kept standing after defeat, … Just minor things, but it is all still there after so long.
I will say however with how the price is right now, this game can be found for like 20 brand new where I live, I do feel it is a good value for the content. I would be more reserved at the original price point of 60/70, but now, the worst that can happen is that you do not enjoy it. You won’t take a big risk if you are a marvel fan, trust me!
