Welcome to our review of Aragami 2, a game with fun sneaking mechanics and a tough combat mechanic all in 1 package.
You are one of the last elite warriors of your kin, the Aragami. Victims of a supernatural affliction which corrodes the body and devours the mind, the Aragami control Shadow Essence – a mystical power that grants the ability to control the shadows. With this power the Aragami carry out their tasks and quests – assignments made all along the valley to ensure the subsistence of the village and to free the Aragami enslaved by the invader armies. Aragami 2 is a third-person stealth game where you play as an assassin with the power to control the shadows. Join the shadow clan and fight the invader armies to protect your people.
Discover a full campaign and join the assassin squad up to 3 players in co-op. Manage covers and powers with agility. Takedown your enemies with stealth kills and non-lethal takedowns. Become the master of a skill-based combat with high risk and high reward. Craft your weapons and armors and upgrade your elite warrior with three skill trees of 42 abilities and shadow powers. Save your people and defeat the curse before it ends with you and discover how the Aragami became a legend.
Aragami 2 is a game with 2 faces, unlike a ninja who normally has no face. There is this amazing stealth part where you find the best way to take out enemies that are either on the lookout or patrolling. Using every possible method at your disposal to dispose of them. You could do it without the killing, but where is the fun in that? I have to admit, I enjoyed it much more than I anticipated.
Aside from a few wrong button presses, I am currently playing another game with very similar mechanics and it made my muscle memory bork out on me. I really feel all games should have the same button mapping haha. But I digress, I was about to say that I struggled mostly with the combat in my game so far, not having finished the game yet, but clearly going for the sneaky part whenever I can.
Even though I have pretty much mastered the parrying, I still prefer the awesome sneaking around and just going in for the kill. Jumping from ledges to ledges, mastering not only the sneak kill but also the diving kill, this game is really my style in games.
But not all is good like I mentioned before, the entire manual fighting is hard and despite being really good at parrying, I sometimes felt like I was still unable to do any damage after them. A little tweaking here and there might make it more accessible, but at the same time I feel like this is exactly how the game is supposed to be. Tough as nails and hiding bodies to keep your killing streak alive.
In conclusion, Aragami 2 is a tough game. It has amazing stealth but a hard-as-nails approach to manual combat, almost forming the perfect unison in a single game. At times, I do wish it was a little easier.
