Indie Corner: Gonner 2

Welcome to our review of Gonner 2, a sequel to one of my favorite switch games!

Death needs your help! Defeat bosses while navigating your way through a chaotic colorful procedurally generated platformer (with co-op), but… Don’t Lose Your Head!
In GONNER2, our altruistic and unexpected hero Ikk is back! And this time Death needs his help. Her lair has been taken over by a mysterious presence and she needs Ikk to take it down. Journey your way through deep dark chaotic places with sparks of unimaginable color and crazy bosses, all while trying to literally keep your head!! GONNER2 is a procedurally generated platformer with roguelike elements that will keep you on your toes – now with more added, color and chaos!

GONNER2 is a sequel to the IGF winning game GoNNER.

The main gist of the game is still the same as its predecessor, staying alive while kicking butts. Where Gonner 2 does things differently, however, it’s a rather unique approach to the mechanics introduced in the first game.
I really enjoyed the first Gonner game and its high level of fluent gameplay is what set it apart for me. As a shooter game, it does take a while to perfect your skills and the second game is no different, still hard yet fun to play and it took everything from the first game and just expanded on that.

One of the things I really loved about the first game was the ability to keep going when hit, the hero would revert back to its headless state and if you were fast enough, you would be able to reclaim your head and weapon. the second game is no different and still employs this fun yet challenging part of the game.

Where it does take a different turn in the mechanics, however is the way you get to choose where to go. After picking up your backpack and gun and whatnot, you basically have the chance to pick what type of enemies you will encounter. Whether they be aquatic and all-out free movement like in real water or you pick the floating enemies, and so on …

This expansion actually makes the game harder and easier at the same time. Allow me to explain, once you really master one type of enemy, you can just take the easy route and go that way. At the same time, why not make it harder on yourself and just take that route that you hate. I really loved this addition to the game.

Gonner 2 Basically took a fun game and made it bigger yet still keeping that original feeling of the first game. I will admit I’m a little biased because I loved the first game and there is very little to hate about the second game except maybe that higher difficulty level to really master the game. I do think this is a game specifically for fans of harder games, nothing wrong with that because Gonner 2 is amazing!

In conclusion, like I said I must be biased because Gonner 2 can do little wrong for me, you still got the same feeling of playing the first one, it just became bigger and better.
