Marvel’s Iron Man VR lets you wear the iron mask to become the iconic character that is known as Iron Man. This PlayStation VR exclusive title takes the peripheral to extreme heights, quite literally.
The man in the iron mask
Marvel’s Iron Man VR is an original Iron Man Adventure made for VR. You take on the role of Tony Stark as he battles a new foe. While Tony Stark would rather bury his past and forget about it, a ghost from his past digs it all up again. Tony is forced to become Iron Man once again to save people from getting hurt. Getting attacked with modified drones made by Stark Industries it’s clear this battle is getting very personal. As the game goes on, you’ll soon unfold a lot of the complicated and flawed man behind the superhero outfit.
Hand trusters
As a kid, we used to play as we could fly by putting our hands beside us, and pretending rocket power came out of them. Marvel’s Iron Man VR lets you get yet another bit closer to that fantasy. By using the PlayStation Move controllers you can engage the hand trusters to take flight. Small adjustments to the direction in which your virtual hands are pointing, adjust the direction you’re flying. I can guarantee you the feeling you get in VR doing this is awesome. Developer Camouflaj put fun on the forefront by making sure everything feels smooth.
Let me shoot some stuff
In the first minutes of Marvel’s Iron Man VR, you’ll be flying as if you’ve never done anything else. With a course set up by your assistant Pepper, you’ll also learn how to shoot targets. At first, you’ll learn how to use your repulsor blasts by simply holding up your hand and shooting. The freedom of movement (in all directions) combined with the ability to physically move your hands to shoot just like Iron Man, makes for a great VR experience.
Upgrade your suit
When a mysterious figure, aptly named ghost, targets you and your loved ones you are forced into action. With your old drones attacking you, you’ll need more than just the repulsor blasts. After the first few missions, you’ll learn how to upgrade your suit to get even more blasting power. The Auxiliary weapons upgrade, for instance, lets you shoot missiles from your wrist by pointing the move controller forward while shooting. The Rocket Punch lets you charge up a punching combo which feels awesome to perform mid-air. The ground pound move is another favorite of mine working wonders against tanks. Performing well in missions earns research points that can then be allocated to upgrade your arsenal with more powerful weapons.
Eye for detail
Marvel’s Iron Man VR action is all based around flying and shooting as you would expect from Tony Stark’s alter ego. The way this game differs from other flight/fight VR games is the details. The game looks awesome and takes full advantage of every last bit of processing power the VR unit offers. Camouflaj also did a great job of adding “invisible assistance” to the player to fully allow the player to have fun. There is almost no learning curve which makes this a great experience from the minute you start Marvel’s Iron Man VR.
Conclusion
Marvel’s Iron Man VR is a must-have on the Playstation VR. The original story is awesome. The VR flying experience is very much on point. The action in this game feels sublime. Worth every penny!
