When I said this game was surprisingly good, I really meant it. I have very little affinity with the original Minecraft and voxel games in general, adding in my not being fond of dungeon crawlers… You get the point, I was going in expecting to be disappointed and I was not in the lightest amused by the fact that this is a rather fun and fast-paced game.

While this game does have voxel-like appearances, it is Minecraft after all as a franchise, it does go a bit more into detail and unlike the original, many of the “to be expected” features like building and harvesting, … are plainly missing. This is a pure dungeon crawler in the Minecraft universe so to speak and it does it rather splendidly too. I am using some high praise because I got more than caught off guard, I was in love with how easy this game plays out.

Storywise, the intro says it all. Do the saving of villagers and the destroying of enemies like pretty much every game. While there is nothing new there, Minecraft Dungeons does not disappoint and delivers a fun storyline that will keep gamers of all ages entertained but in my honest opinion not as much as how this game actually plays.

The gameplay is a pure delight, slashing enemies is easy and quick at first and does take a big bump towards a more difficult battle down the line. I loved the variety in weapons like the crossbow, the boxes of TNT, the firecracker and so many more. Menus are easy to use but you’d expect no less from a Microsoft Studio. Even the overlay of what the world looks like is done so subtly, that I had it on most of the time and it did not even bother me once.

Now did things bother me in this game? Well, yes and no, not the game itself but the Windows store borked on me, not letting me play this game despite the review key we had gotten. Even uninstalling failed and after a few Bing searches I figured it out. My PC borked on the gaming services and it ended up costing me all my progress from my first two days with the game. Not being able to skip a level, I pretty much knew what to do and just followed the direction indicator and tried to go as fast as possible.

While this is not a down point on the game, it did somewhat mess with my happy feeling of the day prior when I stopped playing at no less than 3 am, that time is all telling. It was so good that I ignored my sleep time and just went all out. Sadly it turned out to be for nothing as I had to replay a lot…

In conclusion, though, I can not let that experience influence my love for this game and I can only say one thing: “Minecraft Dungeons is really a lot of fun!”
