Welcome to our review of the second Astro Bears game on Nintendo Switch, a party game with a competitive mode.

Competitive party game featuring bears in space suits.

Destroy friendships in the classic Party mode, where “beary big” legends are born!

Astro Bears features 8 lovely bears and it still employs the very same principle. You run around a planet and leave a ribbon running behind you. You need to avoid the ribbon and try to make your opponent hit yours. Jump to avoid the ribbons of other players or just run around them.

Sounds easy and it is. Astro Bears is fun yet easy and only in the third mode, Jetfishing, will you be playing solo, the entire rest of this title is multi player-oriented. In this jetfishing mode, you basically are alone on the planet and you need to catch the fishlike creatures in order to score points. The more you catch, the higher you score. Admittedly, this was my favorite part of this title and I did spend more time playing it than the others.

The reason why I did so, is because I could not find friends that were interested enough in playing a handful of games with me. Astro Bears was either not fun enough or not interesting enough to play a few games. It is telling that I liked the game but they did not enjoy it very much.

At one point I was playing my coolest male colleague at my real-life job, he is a Madden freak, to give you an idea that he is a gamer, but does play a completely different genre. He enjoyed parts of the game, but overall considered it to be a game he would not purchase. His favorite mechanics were the boost and jump, but he did ask to break off our gameplay rather early into the game.

Mind you that despite some downsides, this game is fun when played with the right people. I had the best experiences with casual gamers and not the hardcore guys. Those times, we mostly had fun and enjoyed ourselves. Astro Bears is a bit of a mixed bag in that aspect.

In conclusion, some good and some bad points were experienced while playing this game and despite its lower price point, I did prefer the older Astro Bears game.
