Welcome to our review of Grass Cutter – Mutated Lawns, out now on Nintendo Switch and this game is all about the most hated chore of all, mowing the lawn!
Grass Cutter is a game about cutting mutating lawns, that requires a lightning-speed response and great logical thinking. Here every level is a challenging puzzle. The goal is to cut the grass. Very simple, but only at first glance… Grass Cutter calls for focus and commitment. Just one blink of an eye – and you lost. It’s very challenging! The game is made in a cubic retro-style, has high complexity at advanced levels and is ready to truly test your reaction!
Feel yourself in the shoes of a lawnmower who saves the world of people. More than 10 types of lawn mutations that give you a real challenge. A lot of obstacles. Bypass the security system and laser fences, escape the fire of security guns. You don’t want ordinary lawn mowers? You can play with animals. There are many animals in the game: from cows and sheep to beautiful fairy unicorns.
Grass Cutter – Mutated Lawns is literally all about my most hated childhood memory, having to mow the lawn. I can not express how much I hated this so I did go into this game with a certain lack of interest. I would even consider calling it a despise to a certain level. This was a bad memory of mine and well, people tend to avoid bad memories if possible.
My biggest annoyance with the real deal, was how horribly our lawnmower moved and luckily that was no issue in this game. Grass Cutter – Mutated Lawns is actually quite fun but despite calling it a puzzle game at times, it also forces you to use your hand-eye coordination to the fullest. The game is surprisingly high paced for a “basic” puzzle game idea like this and that is where its power lies.
Grass Cutter – Mutated Lawns is all about cleaning the lawn and you have a surprisingly nimble lawn mower and before you know it, you are driving over rocks, that slow you down and kill the battery or you will be driving into the water, which happened to me more than I’d like to admit. The entire game is all about making the right moves and avoiding the dangers of these mutated lawns.
Grass Cutter – Mutated Lawns is also a rather basic game in graphics, but that will be the least of your problems when playing this game. I often felt the game was properly priced though not my cup of tea. Was it my not so fond memories of the olden days as a kid or really the lack of a “je ne sais quoi” that keeps you interested in a game? I do not know.I simply do not know and I can admit that I may not have been the best reviewer for this game.
I do think it delivers quite some interesting features and that price point really feels comfortable to me. Would I buy it myself? Sadly no, despite the summer months being slow for releases, I just feel like my money would go into another game, maybe even scoring some smaller titles in the eShop sales?
In conclusion, Grass Cutter – Mutated Lawns was not a great experience for me, but if you are in the market for the high paced style games that fully test your hand-eye coordination, Grass Cutter – Mutated Lawns will be for you to consider!
