Welcome to our review of Jack N’ Jill DX , this might just be my new favorite indie of the moment!
Will you help reunite Jack N’ Jill? 140 levels and a bunch of minigames!
Once upon a time, Jack and Jill, went up the hill, to fetch a pail of water. It didn’t particularly end well for them, and to be honest, things aren’t exactly great for another Jack and Jill either.
In Jack N’ Jill DX, players must assume the role of Jack, overcoming many hazards, in a bid to reach Jill, who awaits him at the end of 140 levels, in typical old-school one-button platformer fashion! But, for the players who feel the guy should be the one who needs saving, we absolutely agree and that’s why Jill is available as a playable character as well!
Jack N’ Jill DX might be my new favorite indie game right now and that is saying a lot. The premise is about the easiest possible, get them together in the level and you head to the next level. All you need to do is press the A button to get going and then you start moving.
At first, you just get to jump, cross pits and spikes that kill you upon impact. Slowly adding in multiple more obstacles like baddies that can fly, items that repel enemies but also items that enhance your physics like adding speed. The slow build up incorporated here is just about perfect.
Jack ‘n Jill may have one of the most basic of ideas mixed with very simplistic graphics but it all just works like a charm. This game is also far from easy, more than a handful of levels in the first two worlds took several attempts. Most of all, this game is fun to play and that is the kicker!
I always said it does not take amazing graphics to make a good game and to anyone reading this review, this goes into the category of games where gameplay rules, like the Boxboy trilogy, …
There are also minigames with which you can score customization items like caps and hats or different screen colors, a nice touch but not much more than that. The money here is how easy it is to get into this game, the harder it is to truly master it.
Nothing beats finishing a harder level in just one try!
In conclusion,Jack N’ Jill DX is the game you never knew you were missing! It’s fun, small and easy to get into but surprisingly hard to master. Nothing beats the high of the perfect run, trust me on this one!
