Welcome to my impression on the latest Nintendo Direct, which just finished.
I honestly do not know where to start, the hype is real, it is very real. I already apologised to my wife about the time I will be spending playing all these games. Prior to going down the list, Nintendo actually announced my long time wishlist number 1 game, Luigi’s Mansion 3.
I was talking to a fellow GB member the other day, saying that I hoped the previous direct with Luigi’s appearance was finally confirmation we were getting the new LM game, while he was more held back about it, he did say my points were very feasible and that yes, it could happen. It looked amazing to me and with the added bonus of soon replaying the original on 3ds, the fanboy in me is already very pleased.
Next in the list, all the 3DS madness really. You might be underestimating the console sometimes, but with Epic Yarn and Luigi’s mansion, the 3DS is getting some serious fighting power to remain the perfect intro into gaming on the market right now. I can only say that despite owning them already, a double dip for both will be happening.
On to the Switch part. I felt the pace was fast and proper, a ton of games we already knew or are already released are getting more concrete information, like added DLC, I love how Mario Tennis Aces is getting so much loving from Nintendo and I thank them for it. This will make me pick up this game again for another go.
At times, the salvo at which they fired new titles at us, was rather impressive but at the same time did not allow me to fully let it sink in. Daemon X Machina while still looking like a very intense game, still fails to really captivate me. Same for some other titles, Sonic racing, the NBA games, … I guess you can write that up to too many top tier titles?
What I did like seeing, the confirmation of Yoshi’s game, the newly dubbed Crafty Worlds, God, I love this idea. I loved his previous game on WII U and am sure this is a day 1 purchase for me. As a Nintendo lover, I was very amused the entire time by the prospect of being able to play tons of new games, though not the amount of money I will be spending, haha.
Then the biggest bomb of all dropped, which to me, surprisingly, was not the Nintendo IP, but the amount of Final Fantasy coming to a Nintendo console. God, I look forward to playing these titles again. I got to say this is what really topped off the Direct for me, not the animal crossing troll turned game after all. Kudos to the delivery of that one by the way. But really, we are getting more than a handful Final Fantasy titles including some of the very best ever made.
Adding to that the huge amount of Switch games from other places… I want to say one thing. A year ago, I was one of those maniacs on the web, shouting the “bring everything to Switch” slogan. Lately I have been part of the “please stop” movement, we are getting way too spoiled with all these amazing titles and I need more hours in a day to really be able to play all the games I want.
There are no games on Switch?
Every single direct Nintendo has released is jam packed with new and innovative titles, amazing ports like the Mario Bros U title or Luigi’s mansion for 3DS, … To anyone saying there are no games on Switch, look at this direct and honestly say that again…
There are games on Switch. Great games. More and more top titles, top tier and amazing experiences. This entire direct was an ode to the gamer. Not to Nintendo fans, but to all of us. Thank you gaming industry for what you do for us, the gamers.
This Direct was possible one of the best I have seen in ages. I can not wait to see how Nintendo will ever top this one, but I am sure next time they will prove me wrong!
