Nintendo is the last to show us what they are bringing to E3 2018. Now that the Nintendo Switch is extremely popular, the wishes and hopes are high for Nintendo fans worldwide. Of course, Super Smash Bros. for Switch wasn’t a surprise since we already knew it was coming. Did Nintendo bring enough surprises with them to blow fans away or did they keep things a bit too safe?
Games above all
The Nintendo Direct started off incredibly strong, showing new and upcoming games at a very high pacing. Compared to the other conferences, the Nintendo Direct certainly had the best start with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLC, Super Mario Party, and the new Fire Emblem: Three houses, all coming to Nintendo Switch pretty soon. There were simply too many great games pumped into the first minutes of the Direct, including the long-awaited Fortnite. This Direct puts games above all, no sweet talk, just game after game, without boring statistics or awkward shows.
You know you’re showcasing an amazing amount of games when big releases such as Dragon Ball Fighter Z and Dark Souls are just featured in a reel of upcoming games for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo seemed to have found the right format to deliver as many games as possible in a short period of time and I’m sure they made a lot of fans happy today!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The game everybody was waiting for was finally revealed. The Nintendo Switch version of Super Smash Bros. is named ‘Ultimate’. We had to wait for it for a long time and we weren’t sure if we were getting a Wii U port or entirely new game. Instead, it looks like both options were wrong, we’re getting the Ultimate version of Super Smash Bros. This means that you’ll have access to every fighter that ever entered the Smash scene, bringing the total number of fighters to the highest number possible in Smash’s history.
I won’t go into full details of the game here since it’s not the right type of article for this but bringing Smash to Switch in this way is an extremely clever decision. Fans from the franchise get the version they deserved from the start while newcomers can access the best possible version instantly. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was by far the most impressive game of the Nintendo Direct and I wouldn’t be surprised if this news actually breaks the internet. Personally speaking, this was my favorite reveal of E3 2018 and I can’t wait to see more of this game. Just hoping there will be a couple of more surprises for it. Oh, and Ridley finally joined the roster!
Missing just one big surprise to make it perfect
Although the Nintendo Direct revealed a lot of great games and the Ultimate version of Smash Bros. I couldn’t shake the feeling that the presentation did miss one big new surprise reveal to make it a perfect presentation. That being said, it was one of the best Nintendo Direct presentations we’ve seen in a long time.
Conclusion:
The Nintendo Direct of E3 2018 delivered what we hoped for and even more than that. With a lot of great new games coming to Nintendo Switch in the coming months, Smash Bros. really stole the show with the inclusion of Ridley, the most wanted character ever in the franchise. The company offered more than just Smash, Fire Emblem is coming, Mario Party is coming, Dragon Ball Fighter Z is coming, and a lot more! I think they really won the E3 2018 crown with this presentation.
