Opinion: E3 Nintendo spotlight

So the spotlight is over, it was action packed, but was it enough?

Yes, it was enough, but also… No, it should have been more!

There you have it, I think it had plenty of firepower, but it did not beat that epic Ubisoft presentation in elegance and pure desire to play the games.

Don’t get me wrong, it did not fall short of my expectations, but Ubisoft was so action filled, compared to Nintendo where the action was all pushed into 25 minutes. Nintendo should have been more elaborate about some of the new titles. In what basically took 3 minutes, 3 big IP games were announced, the new Metroid one, just disappointed me.

I would have loved more information about Rocket league, the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 game or even Fire Emblem Warriors. My personal feeling, while they did bring the pop, they did not bring plenty of information, like that part announcing the Pokemon RPG, not even showing a single second of gameplay or any image… Sure, having a core Pokemon RPG is a dream come true, but why not use the time to give other games a little more star power, you recently did a Pokemon Direct, you should have ended that direct with that information!.

That is about it for what I did not like! The information somewhat felt lacking at times.

What they did do right, keep the information precise, when dates were available, they were announced, I was quite amused by having the Super Mario Odyssey release date a month before my personal pre-E3 guess. It can’t hurt getting that game a month sooner. After the spotlight itself, the Treehouse presentation showed another 3 Amiibo coming (out of 5 total that will be released for the game), sure, they look lovely, but I am getting tired of buying yet another Mario Amiibo. I do appreciate the Metroid Amiibo!

What we did see and what I really liked, the new Yoshi, while very short, I can’t wait to take that one on the go! I felt like I was boarding the hype train at that point, just can’t stop loving that lovely fella.

So how did Nintendo do? I think they could have done more, shown more of their games, but that was kept for the treehouse presentations, like that Metroid game coming on 3DS suddenly, the big gameplay of Super Mario Odyssey, the Mario+Rabbids gameplay, …
In my humble opinion, they should have just made a 70-minute spotlight with all that information of the treehouse included, instead of 25 quick minutes and oh yeah, watch us play in the treehouse for more exclusive news in the coming hour…

The last full direct, to me, felt much more complete than the one today for some reason. But do not misunderstand my intentions here, I was very happy throughout the presentation, loving the upcoming titles and just smiling the entire time, but how it was brought, that could be better in my honest opinion.

Contentwise, I thought they topped all others except Ubisoft. Great Job Nintendo, but please, make it a longer feature next time <3
