Indiecorner: Shutshimi Seriously Swole (Wii U)

In Shutshimi you play as the most badass goldfish that ever existed, swimming and shooting your way through epic underwater battles.

Shutshimi is a chaotic side-scrolling shoot ’em up game in a retro look for the Wii U. What really makes this game so different from the rest is the extreme short levels of about 10 seconds. This is because you play as a goldfish and they are not able to remember longer than that. This can be useful because no matter how bad things get, as a player, you know you only have to last a short time. So, even if a wave is particularly dangerous you just have to hold on until the 10 seconds are over.

After every level ,you have to choose between three different power ups but the problem is that you have about 10 seconds to choose between them and they are intentional vaguely described and not all power-ups are as good as others. Some of the power-ups give you epic weapons like a cannon or a machine gun while other power-ups are more annoying like more enemies to fight or a mechanic that flips the screen upside-down.

The levels feature funny enemies like sharks with sunglasses, cats in a submarine, underwater sheep and much more ridiculous creatures. After a while, the levels feel kind of repetitive because you fight the same enemies but luckily every 5 levels you have to fight a boss. Boss battles are not so hard to fight but the tricky part is that you have to defeat them in under 1o seconds otherwise you have to fight a stronger version of them two levels later. Fighting these bosses feels very satisfying because these are the only enemies you have to defeat, with others you are able to ignore them and still make it to the end of the level.

ShutShimiVerdict

This game is not about finishing the game but more about getting better scores every time you play and beating your high score. Shutshimi is a very funny game that looks very cool with the retro pixel art. But after some time, it gets a little boring and repetitive, but there is still the option to play this game with up to 4 players which makes this game an awesome party game if you want to kill some time with your friends. This game is pretty cheap so if you want a ridiculous retro shooting game this could be something you’d like.

The Good:The Bad:
+ Simple and fun– Gets repetitive after a while
+ Singleplayer, multiplayer– Feels more like an app than an actual game
+ funny retro look – Can be chaotic
+ challenging but not too hard
