The game plays like a 3d arena fighter(think Naruto games or J-star,anarchy reigns and dragon ball games.)
So during the Nico Nico stream from Famitsu the crew there got to see new stuff and actually play the game.
And here is the deal:
The game is a 3d arena fighter, so two fighters are selected, they go to a stage, selects an assist set of two Pokemon
and goes head to head in a 1V1 (with assists off course) until one of their lifebars are depleted.
Three new character are announced:
Suicune one of the 3 legendary beasts of Ho-oh and use ice beams.
Pikachu the series mascot, uses Volt Tackle as a super.
And Gardevoir the psychic Pokemon most know as the partner Pokemon of Wally in ruby and sapphire, it buffs up by mega-evolving.
There are also assists, you take a set of two Pokemon and you can switch assist every round.
These are the assist Pokemon:
set A: Emolga and Fenekin.
Emolga is gen 5’s Pikachu, when used Emolga zaps the enemy.
If it’s Fenekin’s turn it will create a dome of fire (think Din’s fire in Ocarina of time).
set B: Lapras and Snivy
When Lapras is summoned it will surf at a straight line hitting anything in its way.
Snivy summons a leaf-tornado.
I also spotted an Eevee and I think it will be an assist.
In the cave stage you can see an Archeops chilling on a cliff.
the controller pretty much confirms a Wii U release, here it is:
And we got a local test date at: January 30 and 31 and february 1.(around the same time as Apex so people are speculating).
Here are some screens:
