Let’s open a window before reading this review, shall we? Someone must have had something wrong for lunch cause it smells like a piggery in here. Oh no, wait, it’s just Tales from the Arcade: Fart Mania that dropped into our inbox. Clothespin on the nose, and let’s dive in heads first.
Story:
So, yeh, what do we have with Tales from the Arcade: Fart Mania. Well, mostly a game about pigs farting their way into outer space. The official transcript for the game is the following:
There is no one else, just you, a bad case of IBS, and a family of fellow swine to save. Bounce, fart, jump, and explore your way up into the very stratosphere to rescue your friends from the clutches of their alien kidnappers.
And you guessed it – you are the only piggy destined to rescue the pigs abducted by aliens. The only way to beat them is to fart into their life support system and make them vomit through their eye sockets. Once done a few times, each time higher and higher in the air (and space), you’ll fart the crap out of the aliens and return all the pigs to their piggy planet. Who said farting is a useless skill?
Gameplay elements:
Tales from the Arcade: Fart Mania nailed one thing right on the head, and that’s the feeling the game gives. It feels like I’m back in front of the old-school arcade cabinets, working my way through the different layers of levels. But this time, it was combined with elements from Celeste and Super Meat Boy (without the extensive dying).
So, you usually work through the levels with some precision platforming and a very musical gimmick! (Toot toot, to the great joy of my two daughters). And what makes it easier (in a way) is that you are given infinite double jumps! (Don’t ligDon’tmatch!). So, no worries about falling down a few levels due to a miscalculation; you will be shooting back up in no time. Of course, the game’s primary goal is to show them all they’re wrong… (Prove your disability is a boon!). Oh, and this game has the highest FPS (Farts Per Second) of any game ever released, so that’s fart worthy?
Conclusion:
So to conclude – what we have with Tales from the Aracde: Fart Mania is a fun, fartpacked action arcade platformer with a good hour of fun packed into it. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s fun to see how quickly you can reach the end of the level (which nailed me a top 10 spot), but collecting all the pigs along the way is a bit trickier. So there is some form of replayability in it as well; don’t do it for the same depth as in Super Meat Boy, Celeste, and other more harsh platformers.
