My first encounter with Warhammer as a franchise was around 12 years old. A friend of mine had these little figurines from Games Workshop, I think they were pewter and you had to paint them. It became clear pretty quickly how much I sucked at creativity back in the day as both my drawing and painting skills are truly horrible. I did end up buying 1 figurine from the local store that came prepainted and if not for moving to the Middle East many years later, I would probably still have it.

The appeal to me, these massive heroes fighting for their own kind of justice, always kept me interested, but there are limits to what you can do with a franchise if you are so unskilled at something like I was. I was always pretty delighted when games came out and it allowed me to at least relive those fond memories in the past. Space Marine 1 was always one of my favorite games of its era and well, pretty obvious that I loved the announcement of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

I would take up the gun again and fight my way through all the vile enemies thrown at me and the new game does not disappoint at all. If anything, I would say it is a lot more of the “old” and I mean that as a compliment. It is almost like how they took all the good parts of the first game and took it from there. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 excels in its gore and aggressive combat. At times you will get cornered and well, the onslaught on your health bar is very legit. This game is pretty rough even on the easiest of difficulties. I love it.

Boss fights have become very intense as well and this part comes with its own warning. Selecting your loadout is more important than ever. Some guns just suck the big one and others are quite devastating. Same for your hand weapon, do you go for mass destruction or swift justice, it is a lot more important than ever before. Especially when you get to the part where you are protecting things like the cables holding your elevator in place. A powerful gun tends to be less effective than a small gun with a bigger amount of bullets. Nothing really beats that sensation of having to run for your life when you are reloading your best gun while you are being hunted.

In conclusion, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is an amazing game, specifically tailored to those loving manual combat from hand weapons to the illustrious use of weapons that would destroy a house. This game is a must-play for fans of the franchise and/or genre.
