Preview: Ambulance Simulator – Gamescom 2024

Ambulance Simulator feels like a safer, more stylised version of GTA, and puts you in the driver’s seat of an ambulance navigating the streets of San Francisco. The game builds on the formula introduced by Police Simulator, but with a strong emphasis on medical emergencies of course. Let’s save some lives!

A deep experience

What really stands out in Ambulance Simulator is the depth of the medical gameplay. This isn’t just about driving fast to save lives; it’s about making critical, informed decisions under pressure. The tutorial does a great job of guiding you through the basics, but once you’re out on real missions, it’s all on you to apply what you’ve learned. There’s a lot of complexity here—diagnosing patients, understanding symptoms, and choosing the right treatment all require solid medical knowledge. Thankfully, the game provides detailed manuals and resources, but the pressure is real, and not every patient will make it.

The developers have crafted an experience that’s both engaging and challenging. The game’s use of Unreal Engine makes everything feel incredibly lifelike, from the patient’s condition to the environment around you. The level of detail is impressive; you’ll need to pay close attention to vital signs and physical cues to determine how to proceed.

Watch of for catastrophes

In addition to regular missions, Ambulance Simulator introduces more intense, large-scale catastrophe events. These scenarios are less about realism and more about handling chaos. You’ll have to perform triage, deciding which patients get treated first and who might have to wait. These situations force you to make tough decisions, balancing the urgency of multiple injuries. Be warned, in those events it will be impossible to rescue everyone. Sadly, I didn’t see the mode in action but it does sound good as it offers some variation and perhaps even more acrade like gameplay.

Early conclusion

Ambulance Simulator is more than just a driving sim; it’s a realistic portrayal of the life-and-death decisions faced by EMTs every day. With its detailed medical gameplay, and dynamic environments this game offers a unique take on the simulation genre. Whether you’re a fan of Police Simulator looking for the next challenge or someone new to the series, Ambulance Simulator promises to deliver an intense and rewarding experience. Although it won’t be for the faint of heart.
