It’s time to jump back into medieval times with, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. The deep RPG returns with a sequel and is shaping up to become everything fans want it to be. Let’s sharpen our sword!
Authentic
The moment the demo started, it’s clear that this sequel will once again deliver authentic content. The developers at Warhorse Studios have clearly doubled down on their commitment to historical accuracy. The landscapes are as breathtaking but the demo put me right into a vibrant medieval town that was packed with things to discover. Every aspect of the environment feels lived-in and real, from the muddy roads to the humble village huts and impressive town buildings. The level of detail in the architecture, the clothing, and even the mannerisms of the characters feels researched, ensuring that the game doesn’t just look medieval, it also feels it. Of course it’s not a pure simulator but it does offer a nice look into those times.
This immersive atmosphere is further enhanced by the game’s dynamic weather system and day-night cycle, which affect not just the visuals, but also gameplay. During my quest I had to go steal a sword, which could easily been done during the night. Once you change to night however, you have to be more sneaky and watch out for the guards, really altering the way you approach the mission.
Mastering combat
One of the most important and different mechanics of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is its approach to combat. The first game was praised for its realistic and challenging combat system, and the sequel has refined it even further. In the demo, I was given the opportunity to spar with various characters, each of whom offered different insights into the art of sword fighting. This isn’t your typical hack-and-slash affair; combat demands patience and if you want to be good at it, you’ll have to practice a lot, just like in the real world.
The more I practiced, the more I noticed my character’s skills improving. But what’s unique here is that this progression isn’t just tied to a stat bar. It’s reflected in how my character moved and reacted during combat. Parrying, dodging, and counter-attacking became more fluid as I spent time training, making each encounter feel more satisfying along the way.
Let’s have a chat
Beyond the combat, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II shines in its character interactions. The demo allowed me to engage in several conversations with the local townsfolk and nobles alike. Each dialogue felt meaningful, with choices that had real consequences, both immediate and long-term. As I spoke with different characters, I began to understand more about the world’s complex social and political dynamics. Talking with the characters really helped in finding new ways to solve my quests or to get further in the main game.
Early conclusion:
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is shaping up to be more than just a sequel; it’s a love letter to the fans of the original and to anyone who wants to play a truly immersive historical RPG. It’s not a game for everyone but if you’re into this type of experience, this certainly will be one of the best releases next year.
