Recap: The Elder Scrolls Online 2024 Global Reveal

The Elder Scrolls Online is coming close to its 10th anniversary and is still pumping out content. 2024 will see a lot of new things added to the game. The 2024 global reveal was just released and offered us a first insight into what’s to come.

Gold Road

A whole new chapter was announced that continues the storyline started in 2023 dubbed “Shadow over Morrowind” story arc. Just like the previous content released, this chapter can be freely started without having played the previous storyline called Necrom. A prologue will get you all the prerequisite information you need to delve into the new storyline called “Gold Road”.

The new chapter takes place in a new zone called West Weald. The area can be found west of Cyrodil/ This might sound familiar to those who played The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Although Elder Scrolls Online takes place long before the events of Oblivion, you will get the explore many places you came to love in Oblivion. The city of Skingrad will act as the main hub city. It will be cool to see if this earlier version of the city will differ much from the version in Oblivion with all it’s wealthy inhabitants and extensive vineyards.

Included in the new chapter are the following:

  • 11 objectives
  • 6 delves
  • 6 world bosses
  • 2 public dungeons
  • 1 trial
  • A lot of new world events.

The chapter will add about 30 hours of new content to the already massive world of Elder Scrolls Online.

A new Deadric Prince

Delving a little deeper into the story of Gold Road, will have you discover a jungle in the region of West Weald that seemingly appeared over night. Not long after this strange occurrence, you’ll find out there’s a new Deadric Prince called Ithelia. You’ll discover her prison but will find you’re too late. Ithelia has already escaped her prison and things in the world are already moving because of her presence. Although Ithelia herself has no memory of who or what she is, a group of wood elves called the “Recollection” are working to restore Ithelia’s powers. These wood elves are trying to use Ithelia to create their own place in the world. As the player you’ll get to find out who Ithelia is and what happened to her.

The new zone will have 3 distinguishable major biomes: The Gold Road, Valenwood Annexation and Colovian Highlands. The Gold Road is the more “forest in the fall” area, the Valenwood Annexation has a full-on rainforest vibe, while the Colovian Highlands will be much more about rocks, hills and dry areas and a lot less vibrant in colour.

Scribing

Another big announcement is the addition of Scribing. Those big into customization will be especially pleased to have this feature added. Scribing is a new game system that adds more power to the player to play the way you like. With Scribing, players will collect and customize unique skills combined on 3 different levels to cater to their style. With Grimoire, scripts and Inks to collect you can combine these into unique-looking skills. A grimoire will be the core of the ability. These grimoires will have 3 slots to fill with scripts. The scripts will change the characteristics of the ability and maybe add extra healing or a different damage type. Inks will further alter the ability to fully make it your creation. Altering the effect of abilities on so many levels will open up a whole lot of ways to alter the way your character build evolves. With the ability to alter the colours/styles of your abilities, you have the potential to get around Tamriel even more stylish than ever before.

Important dates

With update 41 coming our way on January 26, 2024, the fanbase has a few new additions to look forward to in the form of 2 new dungeons called Oathsworn Pit and Bedlan Veil. Along with some Quality of Life updates to make the in-game experience a little bit better, most of you will yearn for the big update with Gold Road. The Gold Road update is currently planned for June 3 2024 on PC/Mac and June 18 2024 for consoles. The back end of 2024 also has a few new things in store with a housing feature and some vaguely mentioned PVP features along with 2 new companions.

A lot of exciting things to look forward to coming to The Elder Scrolls Online.
