PDP had been in the game for quite some time now. The company is probably best known for the Disney Infinity figurines back in the day but they are also known for their Nintendo DS figurine stylus, carrying cases, headsets, and of course controllers. I had the pleasure of meeting them during Gamescom 2023 and talked about the upcoming REALMz line, a new line that wants to combine gaming and collecting.
The REALMZ line merges gaming and collecting by doing something that hasn’t been done before. With the addition of a cute little figurine inside the controller, this new piece of hardware will make your collector’s heart beat a little faster. The first line includes Sonic, Knuckles, Tales, Optimus Prime and even a cute Pikmin!
Over the years PDP has earned the trust of a lot of companies including SEGA, Nintendo, and HASBRO who are all granting their license to the PDP line. An important detail since collectors want officially licensed products.
Coming this winter
The Sonic and Transformers products are releasing this October to be on par with Sonic Superstars and the upcoming Transformers game. The Pikmin controller will release this Winter and will become the perfect Holiday gift for the Pikmin lovers.
What I liked most about the line is the attention to details. It’s not just the figurine. The controllers come with small environments that will immediately take you to your favorite gaming world. It’s to see and it’s certainly very collectible.
Besides the nice designs, the controllers are light weighted but sturdy and feel extremely comfortable. The Switch line will have a wired and wireless one while the Xbox version comes with an app to map out the buttons and even the lighting. It seems like PDP really thought of everything.
Early conclusion
It’s a fun and very collectible line for sure. I can’t wait to get my hands on the complete set once it launches and I’m already looking forward to future licenses. PDP found the one missing thing in collectible controllers so you better make some room for these later this year.
