Become the fashion influencer you’ve always wanted to be in the upcoming Fashion Dreamer for Nintendo Switch. It’s from the team that brought us Style Boutique in the best but this one is very much its own game.
Create your muse, find your style
The game is set in a virtual world called Eve where it’s all about style and fashion. Before you start the adventure, you’ll have to create your muse. Interesting to know is that you can create up to four custom characters and switch between them depending on how you’re feeling and what type of fashion style you want to represent on the day of playing. After creating your muse, you jump into the vibrant virtual world. The world of Eve isn’t just one small world, it’s divided into smaller cocoons, each with its own style and atmosphere. Some cocoons are all about fun and cute fashion while other cocoons offer a more relaxed and cool sense of fashion. It doesn’t really matter where you play but it does matter for your virtual wardrobe. The cocoons come with their own items that you can unlock in different ways.
To unlock new items, you can play Gatcha machines or bingo mini-games to score some points but the best thing about Fashion Dreamer is the ability to like and copy everything you see. If you see an NPC wearing something you like, you give it a virtual like and the style gets copied to your own wardrobe. No need for real money, everything is easily copied and stored so you can experiment with fashion as much as you like. The developers really want to make fashion the focal point of the game and by giving you so much freedom in picking and mixing items they want you to encourage you to experiment with fashion and find your new style. It worked well in the demo and it’s a very intuitive experience.
Become a true influencer
The goal of the game, if you can call it that, is to become a fashion influencer. Small disclaimer here, it’s all about the positive influencer life. No hate comments or drastic unexpected drops in followers. In Fashion Dreamer it’s all about good vibes only. Becoming an influencers will take some time and there are a couple of things you can do gameplay-wise to make it happen. It’s all about generating likes. You can get likes by creating a showroom, which doubles as you boutique, where others can like your outfits and clothing pieces. Or you can play with the Lookit feature, which enables you to style the characters you meet in the world. You have to take note of what they like to create a style for them that’s both refreshing and on brand. If you mix and match a great outfit, you’ll be rewarded with more likes. You can even go viral in the world of Fashion Dreamer, setting in motion a chain reaction of likes. If other players for example decide to copy and wear your clothing, you’ll gain more points.
It’s all a relaxing and open experience but there are some quests and small missions to keep you entertained. At its core, it’s about fashion and communication. You can’t communicate directly with others online but you’ll communicate through fashion instead. I enjoyed playing this game during my 30 minutes hands-on and was pretty impressed with how the natural flow of the game sucks you in, it’s one of those that’s hard to put back down once it gets you going.
Early conclusion:
Fashion Dreamer is all about exploring and experimenting with fashion and there’s a lot things you could do. This game is clearly aimed at people interested in fashion but is playable for everyone thanks to the easy controls and relaxing flows. It’s a different type of game for the Nintendo Switch’s library but I’m pretty convinced fans of the genre will adore this one.
