When I hear the abbreviation WWE, I tend to have some very unusual impressions. From a corrupt chairman of the board, whose real life “mistakes” have been well documented to paying certain “legends” massive amounts of money to come out of retirement for one more match to various other unusual things happening in what was once my favorite entertainment of the week.
Mind you I still gladly watch the shows ever since the creative decisions in the storytelling have changed hands and the program has mostly improved for the better. Much like this game, some things are better than before, and some, not so much. My biggest gripe with the game, the tutorial, which is not really that well explained. Not forgetting it gets presented by a guy known mostly for trolling and the funny video he once made with Brad Maddox….
Personally, I would make a really big name the host of the game, not someone of the status of Creed. The game is focusing so much on John Cena, so why not get him to do the strutting and let him present literally everything? It would really help the entire atmosphere of the game, a game, mind you, is really on par with what you’d expect of a modern wrestling game.
I remember in the old days, the Royal Rumble game, where you had a mere handful of characters and each having like a very limited set of moves. This is sure a big change with the current generation of games, where you have literally hundreds of moves and it sure feels like the biggest roster of wrestlers, active and legends alike, of any game.
I do enjoy the novelty of options like Wargames, which is by far one of the best things to happen to real-life WWE in the past few years. I remember the female roster having such a match not so long ago and they had one of the best matches of the year. Sadly my skills in the game are not sufficient to have such instant classics, but I try.
That is also exactly where the value of this game lies. Longevity. I know I may have sounded sarcastic or even bitter before, but the game is actually a great investment if you are looking to play a game for the figurative hundreds of hours. WWE 2K23 might be the best in its line, but I am not the player to speak, I usually limit myself to around 10ish hours when I get a new one, but I can clearly see you investing all the time needed to be the new undisputed world champ!
In conclusion, once you get past the tutorial, the real fun starts and if you allow yourself to go all-in, this game might be the elite among wrestling games!
