WRC Generations was released on all major consoles a month ago but Nintendo Switch owners had to wait a little longer for the portable version. Is it a successful port? Time to find out!
WRC Generations
Since the base game stayed the same as the original release, I won’t repeat myself too much in the Switch review. If you don’t know anything about the game, be sure to read our review here:
The Nintendo Switch version
So let’s talk about the Switch version, is it any good? First things first, the game takes a hit when it comes to its graphics but that’s no surprise. The Switch has been out there for a couple of years now and it really starts to show, especially compared to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or even the Steam Deck. That being said, WRC Generations does look its part for a Switch game. It’s one of the better-looking racing simulators currently on the market if you stay focused on the cars and roads. Everything surrounding those is a bit bland and lacks some textures and details to really become pretty. The graphical downgrade is most noticeable in the special effects and the environment surrounding the circuits but it doesn’t really matter that much since the game does perform surprisingly well on Nintendo’s hybrid.
Performance-wise, the game manages to keep a steady 30 fps, even in the sharpest of curves. It plays very smoothly and I enjoyed my time with it, playing it in handheld mode on my OLED model. The OLED screen really does increase the realism and increases the colors and overall graphics which makes it a pleasant portable experience. It offers the same amazing content as its bigger brothers and it performs very well in handheld mode so if you’re looking for a realistic racing simulator on the go, this Switch version is definitely worth it.
Conclusion:
WRC Generations is another great port on the Switch and offers everything you would expect from it. If you’re on the market for a realistic racing simulator, this is a game you certainly have to try.
