FACTS, which stands for Fantasy Anime Comics Toys Space, took Flander’s Expo Ghent by storm once more to deliver the Walhalla for everything geeky. What can you expect? Let’s take a look.
Geek Market
The first thing you’ll notice when you enter the massive halls of FACTS is the Geek Market. From weapons to Japanese candy and even extremely rare collector’s items, FACTS has it all so you better prepare to spend some money. Unlike other events, FACTS really has an offer for everyone. It really doesn’t matter if you’re into movies, sci-fi, comics, board games, or videogames, FACTS has it all and it’s all set for a magical weekend. The Geek Market is well-curated and although returning fans might remember most of the booths from other conventions, there are tons of new smaller booths waiting to be discovered. If it’s your first time at the convention, you’ll be blown away by the enormous offer for sure, so you better prepare your wallet if you’re visiting FACTS this weekend!
Gaming Zone
Since we’re a gaming website, the first thing we’ll go check out is the gaming zone of course. The first company you’ll bump into is Nintendo. Nintendo is back and brings in some instant hits like Spaltoon 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Kirby’s Dream Buffet. Besides playing these Switch games, Nintendo also offers some fun tournaments where you can win epic goodies or you can take a photo in the iconic green Super Mario warp pipe. The Nintendo booth offers a lot of fun and I’m sure you’ll have a blast playing some of their games. Nintendo isn’t the only company in the gaming zone, you can also check out the Belgian National Final of Just Dance on the impressive Just Dance booth, check out some Belgian games at the VAF booths, or go hands-on with some of Samsung’s best products. If you’re into retro games, you’ll find those in the gaming zone and in the main halls too so there’s literally something for everyone here. It’s not the biggest gaming zone we’ve seen at FACTS over all the years but it’s good to see that the gaming companies are returning to the magical FACTS forest again.
AR Karting
Karting has been around for a while but when upgraded with a dozen crisp projectors and spatial mapping, it becomes something else entirely. Supercube provided a fun experience that they will launch as a full venue in Ghent very soon. FACTS 2022 was their testing ground for this beta build and the build promised a lot of fun. All kart drivers were divided into two teams and they had to paint the floor to fill as much of the entire hall floor as possible. If the other team tried to drive over their territory they were slowed down significantly. It was a blend of Mario Kart and Splatoon but with augmented reality baked in and actual karts! We can’t wait to see what the full experience with other game modes looks like when they open up in December. It looks like the ideal getaway with friends or colleagues! Bundle your powers and work together to claim the Supercube!
Board Games
A major player in the board game scene from the Netherlands , 999 Games, was present at FACTS 2022 with an entire hall dedicated to the “Spellenspektakel” event that is well known in the Benelux. The entire hall was filled with a massive booth where the kind people of 999 Games were more than happy to explain the many board games where you could easily spend an entire FACTS day. From the “La Chouffe”-endorsed Saboteur miners or the XXL version of Halli galli and Zinga, everyone was present on the massive floor. There were dozens of board game publishers represented in this scene that has unmistakably gained a lot of traction in the last years. You could even try your luck to be selected as a World Champion Saboteur, it comes with some very enticing prize money. There were games for the smallest fans and even the hardcore D&D-fans could have a look at the latest innovations in this classic yet legendary board gaming scene. Add the ever-amazing cosplayers from this weekend to this mix and it seems that FACTS and 999 Games are looking at a bright future together. As the saying goes: “For everyone from 0 to 100 years old!”
