The Wild Wild West has gotten a bit more evil and it’s up to you to save the United States from the Change! How? By brutally slaying vampires and exploring the dark hellish underground beneath the sand.
Evil West is an explosive and over the top 3rd person shooter that explores a unique narrative; a bloody “What-if” story set in the Wild West of the USA where the Rentier Institute agents are tasked to slay vampires and other bloodthirsty creatures to prevent the fall of the new frontier. Focus Entertainment and Flying Wild Hog are bringing the American frontier in a very explosive and brutal way like we’ve never played before.

The first cutscene of the build we got our hands on sets the mood and also introduces the amazing quality of cutscene direction and voice acting. The characters are likable and the voice acting is top-notch. The scar-ridden faces of the characters are fully fleshed out and look great and believable. At first, we get to know the controls in the dry desert in what seems to be a ghost town struck by earthquakes as all around us the ground seems cracked and hordes of vampires seek refuge in the shadows.
The gameplay then takes us to the underground hellish scenery where the monsters built their upside-down pyramid and bridges to fortify their evil den. The game is very fluid once you get to know the controls and for me, it felt like I was playing “Gears of War” in the Wild West. And I see that as the highest compliment, it is fast-paced, you need to time your shots right and dodge out of the way from the many hordes of enemies. When timed right you can use your mechanical gauntlet to pummel enemies into oblivion with some very brutal animations! Ideal to beat your way through the horde when you ran out of ammo in a tight situation. After beating some enemies it is clear that the perk system will provide enough variation to spice up the game further into its well-fleshed-out story! The weapons have this futuristic almost steampunk-esque feel to them and sound great when firing that well-timed shot in a certain enemy’s weak spot.

Now I have to admit that I had a bit of a learning curve understanding the button prompts in the beginning. Maybe I’m too spoiled from other games that tell me to press ‘A’ or ‘X’ to perform a certain action instead of seeing a “hand symbol” near the glowing chains scattered around the game. That was the only bit of confusion I had at start but after a few minutes I knew exactly where to go and what action buttons to press in the unique world of Evil West. After a while you’ll be crushing evil and performing great-looking animations ending in bursts of blood from the “what’s in a name” -Sanguisuge and other evil bloodsucking evil.

Early Conclusion:
Evil West is filled with bloodthirsty evil ready to change the world and we can’t wait to explore the full story with a filled arsenal of perks and weapons! Thirsty for more Evil West!
