Welcome to my personal opinion on what should change from Splatoon 2 when the new game drops in 2 weeks.
So as you all know, Splatoon 3 is coming really soon and I have started playing the second game again. Not on my old save game, with all the bells and whistles, no, I reset my progress (by choosing another account on my Nintendo Switch) and I wanted to see what it is like to start this game from scratch without amazing gear and weapons.
The one thing that I really forgot about, as long as you play with gear without pimping your skills, Splatoon 2 can be a very frustrating game. Not only because it is slower and you die more easily, it just brings a more disadvantaged way of playing.
The second thing I want to emphasize, Splatoon 3 needs a really decent tutorial somehow. Splatoon 2 had this, but unlike me, most players would go straight to the fighting. After the figurative 2 minutes of running through the tutorial, you are often thrown into matches with very skilled players.
This leads me to the third point, I sincerely hope the matchmaking gets fixed because let us be honest, very few games get this right and Splatoon is no exception to the rule. It is not a disaster like Fortnite matchmaking, but it still is not the way it is supposed to be.
During my gameplay this week, I was at the fifth level in my progress. Matchmaking decided I had a level 90, 84, and 76 in my 4V4. Needless to say, I was by far the lowest ranked player as the others were all mid-50s. All pimped-out players with all perk slots filled in and there I was.
Level 5.
No Perks on my Shirt as I had just bought a new one.
Luckily I am better than level 5, but still, that matchmaking never should have happened. Even at the release of the game, I had made some remarks about this to friends when they asked me if I liked the game.
The truth is that I love Splatoon, I loved the first one on my WII U, the second one has had at least a few hundred gaming hours and I am sure the third one will have as well. I already downloaded the demo (available now) for the upcoming Splatfest.
Another thing I would like, is a better way to report other players.
I know this sounds weird, but I had to undergo trolling by an opposing team. All four only attacked me. Really mature, I honestly do not know why this happened, I always assume you can’t really manipulate the matchmaking, but this was ridiculous.
My team won 70/20ish, because the other guys in my team, just painted. Me? I got splat 9 times but actually managed to get in 9 kills of my own. It really is easy when you are almost always shooting at an enemy. Now I do not feel this type of bullying is something that we should endorse.
The thing missing is an in-game report, be it for leaving (purposely disconnecting) players, bullies, or cheaters, … It is just so annoying to bother going into my iPhone after a game, open the Switch app, go into Splatoon, find the game and then report the right guy.
Yes, I do report everyone I consider a cheater or a bully. Heck, I reported “Mew” on Fortnite because he was telling his YouTube viewers to help him out in his game, by giving him free kills and items. Not that Epic did anything about him, at least we know Nintendo cares, right?
A final thing I would like to see changed is a SKIP button for when a character is explaining stuff. God, Sheldon is a boring character and I have had wet dreams so to speak of being able to skip his endless ranting. Same with the intro girls, can’t we just get an overview screen and then decide if we want to watch the jig or not?
Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, Team Paper all the way! See you all at the Splatfest!
