Creative Assembly, the team that brought us Alien: Isolation and the Total War franchise is currently hard at work to deliver a fast-paced futuristic online team-based shooter. After seeing a presentation here at Gamescom 2022 this is one to add to your lists for sure!
Score some merch
In the game, you’ll play as a small squad of HYENAS, which are still human beings no worries. The HYENAS are a group of people that would like to stop capitalism. How do they do this? By raiding precious vaults filled with merchandise from Earth, straight out of the hands of Mars Billionaires. During the presentation, a cute Sonic plushie was the merchandise we were after. Since SEGA is publishing this game, you can expect a lot of those funny little Easter Eggs throughout the game. If you thought the Sonic merch was funny, wait until you see your crew blowing up doors with a SEGA Genesis bomb. Yes, the nostalgia will hit hard in this one.
Scoring merch from the vaults is your primary objective but it won’t be that easy. Since these vaults are property of Mars billionaires, they are willing to protect the goods with a lot of guards. Reaching the vaults will be challenging since you’ll have to fight a lot of enemies. Combining the power of your team is crucial here since some enemies won’t go down if you try to defeat them by yourself. Combining the skills of your team is key to survival but this is only one part of the challenge. The other one is staying ahead of the other HYENAS teams trying to score the same merch.
Be the best of them all
While you and your team are fighting to raid the vaults, four other teams are doing the exact same thing. Those teams all want the same loot so if you want to be there first you better get strategic. It might be wise to evade some enemies instead of always confronting them in combat to save some of your precious time. If the main vaults are raided a VIP exit will open up, allowing only one team to go through. In this phase of the game, the last standing team wins everything. Even if you failed raiding the vaults, you can still try to shoot down the other teams and steal their bags filled with merch and cash when they died in combat. Or, as the winning team, you can create some powerful defences surrounding the only exit to ensure that you will be the last team standing. The strategies are rather endless and I can’t wait to play it for myself. It also helps that’s it incredibly fast-paced combat designed to look like a cartoon of course.
Early Conclusion:
The developers really managed to create a unique twist in the world of online first-person shooters. There’s a lot of different gameplay mechanics but I’m pretty sure they all work out as intended in the end. Certainly one to keep on your lists!
