I loved Mini Metro, the first game by Dinosaur Polo Club. Now they are back with another installment, focused on highway traffic. And ask yourself; Have you ever been stuck in traffic and wished you could do something to fix it? In Mini Motorways, the city’s traffic problems are in your hands. So buckle up and start your engines! Vrooooooooom!
Dinosaur Polo Club
Mini Motorways is the second game from Dinosaur Polo Club, and it’s taking the passengers of Mini Metro to the roads! Dinosaur Polo Club was thrilled by how much the fans enjoyed redesigning subway maps from all around the world in Mini Metro. For their next game, they wanted to explore how they could bring this minimalist approach to other familiar transportation challenges. Traffic congestion is something that many people experience daily, and road network design is a complex and ever-changing problem as cities continue to grow. Mini Motorways puts this problem in the hands of the player and lets them use their creativity to build a better road network.
Gameplay
Mini Motorways is a game about drawing the roads that drive a growing city. Build a road network, one road at a time, to create a bustling metropolis. Redesign your city to keep the traffic flowing and carefully manage upgrades to meet the changing demands. How long can you keep the cities of the world moving? And it sounds more manageable, I know – but it’s not suitable for your blood pressure. Mini Motorways keeps you on your toes.
All the roads are color-coded, so it becomes quite the rainbow fest once your metropolis starts growing. You are awarded points for each successfully drive from point A to point B (hub to hub). These points accumulate into leveling up, which grants an upgrade in extra roads (they are not infinite), bridges (to cross waterways), and highways for some additional highspeed action!
Like Mini Metro, Mini Motorways offers copies of real-life metropolises, each with a unique map and outlook, which grow dynamically to make each game special. And for those wondering about the rainbow effect I mentioned earlier, yes, Mini Motorways also comes with a colorblind and night mode – so no worries there! And for those seeking the extra mile (ha!), Mini Motorways offers a daily and weekly challenge (which I kept failing horribly) to challenge your planning skills to the max.
Conclusion
So, to conclude! Put the game in D for Drive (or in first gear if you’re driving stick, like me), and enjoy a relaxing soundtrack with a stunning visual output, all combined into stressful gameplay. Mini Motorways is a feast for the eyes and changes up the concept of Mini Metro in quite a few ways. Due to the addition of roundabouts, traffic lights, highways, and much more, the Mini Motorways challenges the player to become the best city planner one has ever seen. A must-play for fans of the genre (like me!).
