Review: Chill Panda

We could all use a bit of stress relief throughout the day, especially with the aftermath of COVID and the struggles of keeping our heads above the water. Chill Panda helps in this aspect, even though it’s not designed for ‘that’ purpose. Are you intrigued yet? Let’s dive into the world of Panda.

Panda Panda Panda, Chill Panda

Baby Pandas grow up fast! Chill Panda is excited to go out into the world but worries about exploring alone. So chill Panda heads to the beautiful island of Chillville near the sea, where it’s said that a very calm and wise panda lives. It’s time to discover the secrets of the island. Help Chill Panda manage fear and worry so that nothing can stop Panda from having fun!

Chill Panda is based on the whole purpose of beating anxiety and fear. Remember that Chill Panda is not a medical device; techniques used in the game draw on a broad spectrum of scientific studies and evidence. There are plenty of apps and games on the market that address the issue of anxiety in adults, but very few are designed to help children under eight learn to recognize and manage their feelings of anxiety.

Anxiety

The developers based their game on studies that proved children are experiencing more anxiety from a younger age; mental health charity Place2Be says two-thirds of 10/11-year-olds worry all the time. There’s plenty for them to worry about in the modern world, from school tests to Coronavirus and the environment. It’s hard enough for adults to manage their anxiety, but at least we have technological tools to help us cope, like apps, online forums, and counseling. TV, Social media, and a more connected world, make it harder for children to distance themselves from issues that make them worried and anxious. Onteca created Chill Panda to help remove the stigma around child anxiety and help families and children talk about things that worry them before they become a more significant issue. The app teaches children simple techniques for recognizing and managing anxiety.

Chill Panda uses tried and tested methods of helping children recognize and manage anxiety; all have been recommended by the resident child psychologist, who co-developed the app with the developers, Dr. Caroline Belcher. So why Chill Panda? By working closely with Dr. Caroline Belcher, Onteca has been able to identify four pillars of relaxation known to help relax and refocus anxious children. The developers incorporated these into activities in the game; children can learn skills they’ll take with them through life. Chill Panda isn’t just a tool to help children overcome anxiety, though; it’s an enjoyable game too, but for kids – not for adults.

Conclusion

So, to conclude! Chill Panda is not a game but more a tool to teach children about anxiety and fear and how to cope with them. I find it hard to put a score on this game since it feels more like a tool than an actual game. I hope that I won’t need this game for my kids, but I’m happy that tools like these exist, especially in the digital era.
