I will admit to being a LEGO games lover. Not just a regular fan, but a true lover. On the Wii U, I genuinely call LEGO Dimensions one of my personal favorites and I was very unhappy this game series got canceled so quickly. Curious to see what was next, eventually LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga got announced and well, I am not the biggest of Star Wars fans, which makes me even more suited to do this review as I am not writing it through a pair of pink glasses.

When you start this game, you are given a very nice introduction video and then you move on to the very smart menu, an island of sorts that allows you to start any trilogy at will. Not any movie, but a trilogy at choice, like let us take the original trilogy, after you finish the first movie, the second movie becomes available and nothing more. To play all 9 worlds in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, you really need to finish them all. This is actually really smart as it allows you to play the movies in your favorite order, either chronologically according to release date or to the storyline.

Let us imagine for a moment you want to really rush through a level without bothering too much with any side mission, you are looking at around 2 hours per movie. You will finish in between 30 and 40 percent while doing so. Once a level is done, you free up the everlasting free play and this is where you will be able to waste months of your life and I mean that in a good way, there are soooooooo many things to do, from 300+ characters, hundreds of unlockables and so much more. I played the fourth movie and really did spend a while going from side mission to side mission and I am still far from getting everything.

Contentwise, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has probably around 200 hours filled with fun, being a rough guess to go all out 100%. I honestly doubt I will go all out, despite really enjoying the game, it just feels overkill to me. But again, this is a great thing for anyone that is a fan. Aside from following the main lore of Star Wars movies, you also get that LEGO charm or as some would call it, the LEGO annoyance. Not for me though, I just love the stupidly wacky nature of these games. From Stormtroopers in a hot tub to flash mobs and just all-out weird jokes.

Yes, I will admit there might be some overkill on that front in this game as we want, and let us be honest here, we want to play a Star Wars game, but this one, it just often ridicules the franchise and while I do love it, it might end up rubbing some fans the wrong way, but to them I say… Chill, this is a LEGO game first and foremost, not a serious Star Wars game. Your character will explode into all LEGO pieces when the bad guys win. Yes, it is very easy as a game, even the puzzles and building challenges never were much of a challenge.

The most difficulties I had while playing LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was actually going for longer play sessions. I found out the good way that my limit for this game was a 2-hour gaming session, took a break, had myself a nice little coffee or a latte, and went straight back in. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a fun game to play, but like always playing games has to be done responsibly.

In conclusion, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is, in my humble opinion, not a perfect LEGO game as the more serious nature of the movie franchise does not lend itself perfectly to the LEGO genre. I do love the game regardless and if they would have lightly cut back on the jokes, I would have probably gone for a 9 out of 10, but for now, this is my score.

8.5/10
