Floogen is definitely one of the more unique games on the Nintendo Switch. Floogen was created using real stop-motion animation – so there are elements made of cardboard, clay, paper, tape, and more! Thanks to this, the world resembles a dream drawn straight from a child’s imagination. So, let’s clay in!
Time to slay parasitic melon beings and save the world! Be prepared, though, because even though it looks like a child-friendly game, it’s more in the range of Dark Souls. Why do you ask? Well, the health and stamina of our friendly hero are pretty low at the start of the game, so bear with me and fight yourself through the first levels and buy some freshly pressed melons!
Floogen
The story of Floogen is not that staggering, but it tells itself throughout the whole stop-motion setting. I enjoy games like these since they challenge the boundaries of the Nintendo Switch. And I like clay-stop motion stuff, like Aardman, etc. You know, things like Shaun the Sheep & Chicken Run. So, if you’re into that kind of stuff, Floogen should be checked out (especially since it’s pretty cheap and deserves more love than it’s getting). Oh, and if you think – this will take hours! No, you can beat it in an hour and a half, but since it features four levels (and three characters), you will probably double your amount of gameplay.
Like I mentioned before, the game can feel a bit unforgiving in some areas where you take lots of damage, even with health upgrades. This makes some game areas feel like trial and error, even with upgrades, but it’s definitely worth your time. Since the hero can do different tricks, try to roll and jump to see what obstacles you can dodge or if something knocks you through the level towards the end at breakneck speed. And if all this didn’t convince you to try it out – it has a fishing minigame. And we all know that all the great titles out there feature fishing mini-games.
Conclusion
So, to conclude! Floogen is an odd one out there on the Nintendo Switch but packs more of a punch than its claymation predecessors on the N64 (you know, the Clayfighter, no, not funny? Oke). Just play through the first 15 minutes of pain and anguish and think back to the YOU DIED screens you faced in Dark Souls. This is just the beginning.
