Tech Review: Razer Kaira Pro for PlayStation 5

The Razer Kaira Pro is a premium headset created for the PlayStation 5 with haptic feedback. We’ve been using the headset for a couple of weeks, so it’s time to give our final verdict. Is this the headset PlayStation fans need to buy? Let’s jump in!

Out of the box

The moment I received the Kaira Pro box, it was clear to see that this is one of Razer’s premium products. The box itself is pretty sleek, sporting the typical PlayStation blue all over. There’s no confusion here, if you see this one in stores, you’ll immediately know it’s meant for PlayStation consoles. Once opened, you’ll see the gorgeous Kaira Pro, which is in line with the other Kaira Pro headsets for other devices. The headset looks very modern and sleek, combining white and black with blue details inside its cups. On the outside of the headset, you’ll see the famous Razer serpent logo, which will of course light up in its iconic RGB colors while using the headset.

When it comes to controlling the headset, the buttons are spread over both cups, making it easy to operate and easier on the eyes thanks to the balance in design. On the left cup, you’ll find the power button, mic mute, and volume dial. The right cup houses the multi-function button, the game/chat mix dial, and the haptics control (more on that later on). Besides the headset, you’ll also find the wireless dongle in the box. Thanks to this multi-device dongle, you can also use this headset on a PC and other devices. It’s a nice addition and the freedom of connectivity is great, but the headset truly shines most in combination with the powerful PlayStation 5 console. A more handy feature however is its dual connectivity. If you connect the headset to your console using the dongle and connect it to your phone using Bluetooth, you can easily switch between the two if you get a call while gaming. A great feature to have for sure.

How does it perform?

When it comes to performance, the Kaira Pro truly is a premium headset. Thanks to the impressive Triforce Titanium 50MM Drivers, you won’t miss a single note of your favorite game soundtrack. Everything is very clear and crisp and offers one of the best overall experiences for PlayStation 5. The detachable microphone is okay and does what it’s supposed to do but don’t expect insane quality of that one. It’s detachable, making it easier to use while keeping the headset itself sleek and clean while it’s detached. The true star and main selling point of the performance is without a doubt the haptic feedback.

Haptic feedback in a headset is a game-changer when it comes to immersion. Depending on your haptic settings, you can go with soft haptic feedback which will be barely noticeable but for true immersion, you better use the highest haptic settings. The haptic feedback activates on the bass or louder gameplay elements such as gunfights. It’s even capable of making a distinction of close combat or further away gunshots. If your enemies are close, the headset will go all out in its haptic feedback, making it a battle worth remembering. At first, I had to adjust a little to this new feature but after using it for a couple of weeks now, I can’t imagine playing my PlayStation games any other way. The only downside at the moment of writing is that the haptic feedback activates on both gameplay as chatting, meaning that if I played together with friends, the haptic will also switch on during a casual conversation. A little downside that needs some fixing in the next generation but besides that, the haptic feedback is a dream come true for those looking for true immersion.

Conclusion:

The Kaira Pro is without a doubt one of the best headsets currently available on PlayStation 5. If you’re looking for a new headset to use on your PS5, this is the one you need to get, the haptic will certainly change the way you enjoy your games for good.
