Welcome to our review of Shredders, a game made by a Belgian Indie Studio.
You and your friend Scotty are making goofball snowboarding videos at the Frozen Wood resort when brand ambassador Lisa makes an offer for some sponsored clips. She gives you a glimpse into a whole new world of snowboarding, with pro riders, snowmobiles, and epic spots to hit. Give it all you got and shred your way into the kick-ass invitational!
Unlock a huge OPEN WORLD full of pow and parks, gorgeous scenery, and amazing lines. Every area is hand-sculpted for maximum flow, and the snow is always fresh! Shredders is for powder fanatics and park rats, for street snowboarders and backcountry explorers. Mastering the DIVERSE TERRAINS is challenging but o so satisfying.
Once you look past the awkward menu screen and the slow loading screens, you are pretty much diving right into the game that has a few caveats preventing me from actually having some enjoyment while testing this game. It all starts with the weird playing mechanics that are tough to master. Imagine playing a game that says you need to use the right thumbstick to slow down, but when you do, it just makes you not only slow down, it mostly made me uncontrollably end up out of bounds.
It does not end there, the lack of a camera really hurts the game so much. Once you go out of bounds, it is incredibly hard to pick up your trail and start “shredding” again, more often than not, it restarted the level. Luckily levels were on the smaller side so repeating one a few times is not the hardest thing to do.
Aside from that, this game looks like it would give a fan of the snowboarding genre a fun time. I missed the ball completely on this game due to the mechanics really doing a number on me. Not to forget smaller details like no audio during the loading screens or even the main menu. I do enjoy the banter between the characters in between levels as that is in my opinion the main appeal of the game.
It is kind of weird to say the main appeal is actually not the gameplay at all.
But that is what it was like for me. Many caveats and irritations, that camera and sloppy controls… It really failed to provide me personally with a good game, but I did say it before… I am sure that gamers into this genre will be enjoying this a whole lot more than I.
In conclusion, Shredders is filled with issues but the story stands strong.
